I am considering an Kioti CK20. Was wondering about aftermarket backhoes like the BH6000 from woods. There website does not provide an application chart. should I assume that they fit all compact tractors in the HP range listed? Also do aftermarket backhoes cost more or less than from the tractor manufacturer? Thank you

You can use an aftermarket BH if the company makes a BH subframe for your tractor. You will need it. I've heard stories of people just mounting a BH on the 3 pt. on CUT or SCUT tractors and the tractor broke in half. I think pricing will be in the same ballpark as the Mfg brand BH.

There are three point and frame mount. Three points fit three points, Frame mounts are a trickier beast, the frames are different for different tractors.

There are horror stories about three points backhoes 'breaking tractors in half'. In fact, I think Steven King wrote a novel, later made into a movie, about a three point hoe breaking tractors in half.

As for mine, and my cheap chinese 35HP Jinma, the 1350 pound three point LW-7 has not broken my tractor in half, in three years of operation (mostly stumping). Mind you, I don't use it to make a living, and I would buy a better hoe if I had to do it over (the tractor has been great), such as a Woods.

Maybe the better hoe would break the tractor in half? I think not.

Here's a thread -

This seems to be slightly above urban legend. However I am amazed that with the level of activity on this board that more actual cases have not been documented.

I know that MY B7610 with MY Woods BH70X lifts the front end on a hard root. But I've only used it for about an hour so far for real digging.

As far as cost - the Woods BH70X installed was more than the leftover 3pt hitch B4672. That one uses a beefed up top-link, w/o subframe.

quotes I got, w/ bucket, subframe for the Woods, install -
BH6000 -$5K
B4672 - $6.2K
BH70X - $7K

But I've about an extra foot of reach

I know I overstated my case, there was a bit of sarcasm there, I figured it would be recognized as such.

These things need to be respected. You don't need to be terrified of them.

There is room between 'no worries' and 'horror'.

My kubota dealer quoted a Woods BH90x $300 less than the kubota BH90, so not much difference in price.

Personally I believe a 3pt BH on a small tractor below 50 hp will not hurt the tractor. Because the Hydraulic pressure is not high enough nor is the GPM high enough to get into trouble. I have used a 3pt BH on numerous tractors without the infamous breaking in the middle syndrome.

Where as using a BH on 50 hp or larger tractor can cause some concern especially with the breaking out pressure that can be attributed to the higher pressures. It can put a lot pressure on the 3pt.

I have put my 8 foot depth BH that was on my 30 hp tractor to a separate frame with an 8hp high capacity pump, now that made my BH snap to attention.

I have a JD2520 and am considering the woods backhoe...would this be a wise decision or should I just stay with the OEM?

I would tend to want the OEM, just on the basis that there is only one place to go when something goes wrong.
