I have heard of the trails, but have never been there.

The Hatfield-McCoy trail goes through the top of my dads property in West Virginia....The pictures that i showed are my own trail that go through my hunting property.

At my dads home where the trail goes through the top....We had a dozer make a road so me & my brother could go straight up the mountain, and get on the trail.....My brother lived in West Virginia also, and i live in Kentucky....But when we rode the H-M trail we bought a year pass to get on the trail...(my brother died this year from a motorcycle accident) and i quit riding in W.Va.

That's a nice picture of your ride!!!:D

What do you think of the 09 Honda Big Red??.......My wife wants one, but we would only get to ride it on our flat-land.....but i guess we could take it to dads to ride...but it takes me 1 1/2 hour to get there.....I really like my Rubicon:D
I've only looked at the Bug Red at the dealership, never driven one. My initial impression is that it is like a gas-powered Kubota RTV. A big, smooth, quality machine -- but intended for essentially all work and no play. Another analogy would be a big, heavy-duty Kawaskaki Mule...

It's certainly high-quality, just a different intended use.

I was leaning toward a Mule 610 4x4, because of size/price, then decided to go Rhino 450. Got this holdover for essentially the same price as a new 610, it has the same load/towing specs, but it's a true off-road vehicle that's faster, rides better, more clearance, etc. I go places all the time where the Mule would get high-centered... such as deep mud, waterbars, rocks, ruts, etc.

we don't have mountains in southern IN but we have some pretty steep hills....i have over 1000 acres to ride on around here....a lot of them are old skidder trails from loggers so there nice and wide for the Gator and some atv trails can be a little tight....be fun to come down there and give some of your trails a shot!!....we have an open county you can ride on any county road with a reg. tag from the state.....just can't go down state hi-way but you can cross them.....

man KentT 40 miles of trails out east sounds like a barrel of fun!!

1000 acres is a lot of riding....I like riding on old logging roads because they are a little wider than the ATV trails here is KY.

In my area of Kentucky you can ride a side-by-side and ATV on the county or state road, but the law requires that your headlights are on, and we don't need a tag like other states.

In West Virginia if your riding the H-M trail, then you can ride the state road to get to another location....and that's for out of state residents too, but you need to have your trail pass...But most of the time the police don't stop them, because they know that their riding the trail system.

On my hunting property, when i get to the top of the mountain...then i can get on old logging roads....And i have ridden 62 miles round trip on trails that were real rough & steep, and it took 12 hours to do that:D

Once i get to the top, this is what i can see.( note the old logging roads)...But in West Virginia on the Hatfield-McCoy trail its totally different....The mountains are much bigger.

I think you made the right choice on the "Rhino" over the "Mule".....I know a couple people and one has a mule 4X4 and another person has a two-wheel drive ATV....The ATV can go up hills in two-wheel drive better that the mule in four-wheel drive....I have seen that mule get on a hill and the guy would have the fuel pedal to the floor, but it would just sit there and the wheels wouldn't even turn....It just sit there & hummed, and i guess it was from lack of power.

I just got through looking at the pictures on the first page again.... and then when i got here i watched your Youtube that you made:D

Kent you did a good job on the pictures & the YouTube video... I really like that area up there & would love to go there someday... Those are nice pictures!

I went through Scott's thread about his view he has from his house, and i really like that area.... I wouldn't mind living in that area, but my wife keeps talking about how cold it gets:D

I have a slide-in-camper for my truck so i can pull a boat when we go camping....I have also hauled my camper & pulled my 20ft. equipment trailer with ATVs on it, and we stayed at a campground in Kentucky where you can ride ATVs on a trail system.

Are there many campgrounds in that area???

There's a lot of campgrounds in Southern Vermont (all of Vermont, actually). Here's a good resource.

Vermont Campground Association, the most comprehensive website for camping information and campgrounds in Vermont

Give a shout if you can make it up this way. I'll try to show you around a bit.

That's a great link with a lot of info. and i saved it & sent it to my wife's laptop through shared documents so she can look at it....(she's sitting across the room from me:D)

She has already said....Can you imagine being up there in the fall:D

Thanks for the link!

Since I raised the question previously, I want to share the official answer about Gators on the Hatfield McCoy Trail System in WV. At one point on the web site they mention maximum width of 50 inches for ATVs, but that doesn't apply to side by sides. They are limited by engine displavement 859cc, and / or horsepower 61. So my JD XUV850D diesel gator is allowed. UTVs are only allowed on easy and moderate trails, which are obviously wide enough for them.

I'm glad that you found out some info.

When i called a couple friends that i grew up with in WV they said yes you could, but i thought it would be better if you could find out & hear it for yourself.

Like you said, that's a long way to travel just to find out that you can't:D

That's one good thing about the trail system, you can call or email them and find out all the info. about the trail system.

Have you thought about which entry your going to go to ?

I think the one where i told you i grew up would be the best.... But you can research all the locations.

Good luck!
