Ford 861 clutch

I am not sure if you know what I mean concerning properly setting up the engagement. Imagine a 3 legged stool with a bucket of water on top. Also, imagine one leg is 1/4 inch longer. Now, gently lift it off the ground and and set it back down perfectly straight - vertically. Obviously the long leg would touch first causing a sudden jolt as it would tilt to the others and this would disturb the water (one chatter cycle). With a clutch your target would be to ensure that the settings would allow all three legs to engage the floor at the same time. Get it? Now, the clutch has these legs and what is important is that they will need to engage at the same time, not cocking the mechanism and causing chatter.

The ford 2 stage clutch for that machine isn't like a single stage clutch.. it comes presetup on a jig from the rebuilder or shop.

I understand the three leg thing. The clutch was already set up and put together when I purchased it.

I uderstand the three leg thing. Yes the clutch came all assembled ready for action. This weekend I hope to get back in the barn replace the rest of the seals I purchased and get the tractor back together, with pictures. I know I said no pictures before but I told the wife how much everyone likes pictures, so she is willing to help me post them. Another quick question, when posting pictures, is there any certain way to make them so they become bigger when viewed by others, or just posting them everything turns out?

I don't want to cheer yet but the two halves of the 861 are back together once again. YEAH!!! Only after 6 tries. Didn't have any help, other than you guys, boy I didn't know as I could do it. Now just set the clutch pedal correctly, put a few more things back together and wa-la I can pull it out of the barn tomorrow and give it a whirl. Thanks for all the votes of confidence and words of wisdom. It all really came into play. Finish up tomorrow with pics and work at getting them posted by Monday night. Thanks again to all who chimed in. Then off to the races (figuratively speaking) trying to do a little more restore work, i.e. paint, rest of leaks, etc...

other than size limits.. just attach your pics and the board software pretty much handles the rest.

If all is well and these pics show up, You can see several with the tractor apart, and several out of the barn after I test drove it. Yes the 12 yr old I do claim, and I also, even though this is a tractor web site, had to show what my daily driver is. The one pic of the starter shows how I was unable to read any serial #.

123rday,

Good job. I can see now that the adjustment bolts are factory set on that clutch. The tractor looks nice. Hard to figure how the starter appears to have a chunk missing at one of its mounting points - they must have dropped it or something. The boy is growing while the tractor is not changing. Now that the tractor is done I am sure that some time with that basketball and boy is in order. Geez my kids grew fast - too fast. I was always afraid of my kids around my Ford641 - but I do miss the tractor. Glad to see the clutch is installed and working well. Sorry I could not produce a better picture but have to tell you- looking at your pictures brought back memories. Next weekend I put my son's CR250 Husqvarna engine back in after a full bottom end and top end rebuild. Bigger project than most that I have done - part count wise. Another big project I did is under You Tube ...search for gate pillars.
