Dead Crows...

I wouldn't rule out someone poisoning them. We sometimes have professionals here poison them with raised corn stations in our orchards. It's unlikely, but worth keeping in mind.

These birds were found in the water trough. I suspect they may been young birds that drowned while getting a drink.:D

Aren't there some areas were rain has been pretty scarce?

Have you ever seen a bird fall in a bucket and drown? Let alone two in the same bucket?

I have had a swimming pool for 10-12 years now. Every day hundreds of birds stop and get a drink. I have never found a dead bird in it. My guess is also the West Nile virus. Or some weirdo crow killer stalker type neighbor! :p

Water troughs are not the same as pools. I have never had a bird drown in my pool either becase the sides are not deep and there is room for the bird to flap and fly and escape. A trough that is half full of water may have sides that are a foot or more above the water level and they are not large enough for the bird to be able fly out and they drown. I happens all the time birds and rats and an occasional bat. For some reason road runners seem to drown the most.

Crows are so hardy and intelligent that it's hard to believe they simply drowned.

How difficult is it to have them independently tested? Is this something that can be done at a vet's office? How quickly do you have to get the bodies tested?

Your local veterinarian should be able to contact the state veterinary epidemiologist and find out if West Nile is endemic in your county in about one minute.

We have had a massive outbreak of Eastern Equine Encephalitis here in North Florida this month and anyone that has horses that has not had them vaccinated is a public health menace.

I like calling them in and shooting them.It makes me angry to see them rob the songbirds nest in my area. The sight of a small bird chasing a crow that has a baby bird in it's mouth is enough for me to shoot them.I know it's how nature works but I like helping out the small birds.Wish West Nile would kill more of them.

We like having crows around our farm as they harass hawks and help to keep hawks away. We lose chickens and pigeons to hawks on a regular basis, nothing to the crows. Are you aware of how many songbirds are killed by hawks?

Piller,I have no idea how many songbirds are killed by hawks. There are many more crows around here than hawks. The rare sighting of hawks around here are welcomed.Saw one pick up a snake once and that seemed OK to me lol.Never considered the good crows do saving your chickens and pigeons.By the way what do you do with pigeons? That's another bird here, that seems to be in abundance. Thanks for the education.Best of luck on your chickens and pigeons.

Just witnessed last week a bald eagle snatch a baby crow from a nest outside our kitchen window.

What goes around comes around I guess.
