aluminum dump trailer

you like my new toy? cab AC 4 in 1 and a pin grabber. Its not here yet. Should be seeing it today or tomorrow. As for the trailer, hat price is actually pretty good. I'm Canadian and we are used to getting Ukfayed on equipment purchases. A steel 16 foot dump here would be around $12000.00. That alumaline would be around $16000.00 CDN.

That isn't as bad as I thought it would be.

well, I just chatted with a guy who builds them up here. He just quoted me $12000 for a 14 footer that weighs 2500 pounds. I'll have to go look and see how heavy they are.

I don't see how you are going to get that chained down in 16 feet.

backhoe has to be lowered to the trailer and chained.

front bucket has to be lowered to the trailer and chained.

I don't see it.

that's a lot of chains (plus the two for the tractor itself) inside a dumpbox (which you'll soon find out is a serious pain in the rear)

10,000 lbs is a LOT of weight for a pickup. (because as you've noticed you'll need a 4000lb trailer to move it around)

I'm not saying it won't do it, but you won't have much margin of safety.

What are you pulling it with? (did I miss that?)

why not get a single axle dump truck (even a smaller one) and pull a regular equipment trailer? (well ok, puts you into CDL land, but you're already into DOT land (if you're using it commercially))

Taking that one step farther, I think you can get a run of the mill 5.9L or 466 powered 10 yr old 26K-33K dumptruck for ~10 grand and a decent 14K equipment trailer for ~4 grand.

Then you would have yourself a nice excavators outfit with the nex JCB.

Then again, I think you said you already had a dumptruck on one of the other websites.

:eek:I'm trying to move OUT of CDL land! Thats a big part of why I have parked my big truck and trailer. I have hauled similar weight behind my pickup and its no big deal if you treat it like a load. Many RV's are much heavier. I have a 1 ton with duals and whatever configuration I use will be 100 per cent legal. Thats the only way I operate.

Are you considering a gooseneck dump trailer? You'll be able to get more weight on it.

Or how about a nice Truck Craft brand pickup dumpbed inset and a lower cost 14K bumper pull equipment trailer. That would be a sweet setup. Might not be able to haul enough dirt.

Do you have the same CDL requirements as us?

I though you guys needed one for any trailer over 10k, but maybe that was just Ontario.

I have a CDL(class 1 with air as we call it), but I want to get out of the heavy equipment business. I plan(already do actually) to sub out all my mass excavation and most of my trucking.

Can't do a gooseneck. Need to be able to haul behind my little Hino box van when needed. And the dump insert is too small I think. Those big dump trailers will actually pack 9-10000, which makes a nice pile on the ground.

well, that certainly makes sense, but have you hauled heavy items like tractors in a dump trailer?

very icky feeling.

wayyyy up high, feels real top heavy and "wobbly", not solid like an equipment trailer.

anyway, just my thoughts,

14,000 dollars for a dump trailer seems a tad high though. The only thing you would want to dump in it would be money. :)
