Does anyone have experience taking out cement sidewalks with a CUT? A friend purchased several lots around his home which need the old sidewalks removed. I have been ripping along the edge with a subsoiler and he has been using his old case 400 with loader to pop them out from the end. This method is progressing rather slowly and there is a lot of sidewalk to take out.

Tried to use this as an excuse to get a backhoe but that was shot down by my better half.:(

Is there water near by? I'd think about renting a walk behind cement saw to help it break into manageable pieces. If you could rent a jackhammer or backhoe. I'm renting an excavator right now to remove some stumps. I'll be posting some photos later today to ask for help.

The only way I've done it is with a sledge hammer and throw the pieces into the FEL.

If you had one of these, it would be very easy. Just run it under the cement, lift, and take it away. That is what it was made for.

Any thing easy usually gets voted down by the better half.

Just use it for walk removal.

Rent an electric pavement breaker.

Sidewalks usually break up very easily.

I've got about 30 feet of that to replace and am planning on using my BH, that was one of the REASONS for a BH.

A large skidloader.

Some of those old sidewalks can be 6" + thick. The skidloader can also bust up larger pieces to more manageable weights. If theres rebar then add a torch or bolt cutters if thin enough.

All of my attachments sit on used sidewalk pieces along the tree line.

Working with a buddy of mine, we lifted the sidewalk up a few inches off the ground and the broke it with a sledgehammer. We went back and used the broken pieces to make a bric brac retaining wall. It stacks real well and the wall has a nice rustic look to it.
