Are they two coulter wheels, or a coulter and a jointer? Or maybe someone replaced the coulter assembly with an opener (?) from a planter.

They (the discs) look the same. Sorry, but I don't know what a jointer is.

It must not be a jointer then. A jointer looks like a small shoe type blade that rides next to the coulter. It almost looks like it would be a scraper for the coulter but it actually shears a small section of the surface next to the coulter. It helps when plowing sod so the plow can roll the ribbon of soil without the sod and roots messing things up. In the end the field looks better without the edges of sod sticking out too. I think those are aftermarket coulters, possibly from/for another brand of plow. (I'm thinking they're from a bigger framed plow, possibly a semi-mounted) I've looked through a few old Ford plow brochures and don't see anything quite like 'em. They're intended to do a job simular to what old fashioned jointers were for. The flat disc serves as a coulter, the disced blade buries trash ahead of each bottom. Ordinarily, the coulter hub would be just slightly ahead of the point of the plow. These look a little big for the frame/throat of the plow, but aught to work at any rate. Yetter made a lot of plow accessories at one point. I'm still searching.

FWJ, you are the second one to mention Yetter's as an aftermarket source for these discs. An older friend of mine also suggested it.

I just like to know a bit about what I own. I do know the thing does a great job chopping thru the roots in my 5 acre field and flipping the sod over. I had to excersise some restraint in stopping after just maybe turning about a 1/2 an acre and as I do not yet own a disc to flatten the mess back out.
