The other thing is, I don't care if Toyota builds a 100% American made truck and Ford builds a 78% American made truck. The corporate profits from the sale of the Toyota still go (untaxed) to Tokyo and the corporate profits from the Ford still go (taxed-of course ) to Dearborn Michigan. (Off shore based companies don't pay corp income taxes)..

Which is better, which benefits the US more, I wonder.

1. Buy US car where profits go to US and jobs are provided outside US.

2. Buy foreign car where profits go off shore but jobs are provided in the US.

I would say resoundingly #1 since even the rapidly shrinking domestic 3 still employ more than the foreigners and the profits stay here. Heck, even the gov't benefits because they tax the domestics more than the foreigners, too.

What's also lost is a national security topic of us not being able to build vehicles. What will we do get the Chinese to build them?

interesting article on detnews.com when Toyota first introduced the Tundra and advertized it as American Made. Actuall about 66 percent of the trucks total parts were made in the USA but was assembled in TX.

Ford trucks total parts were 91.7 percent of parts were made in the USA.

Dodge trucks were 93.7 percent parts made in the USA.

GMC/Chevy trucks were 89.8 percent of its parts were made in the USA..

Toyota's other trucks along with the Nissen trucks have less than 30 percent parts made in the USA.

Made in/assembled in/manufactured in all have different meaning.

In the middle '90's the administration tried forcing the Japs to lower their high tarriff on American vehicle parts which made owning a USA made vehicle to high for the averages Japanese.

A US news team was on the streets of Tokyo interviewing Japanese. One old fellow was asked if he would buy a American made vehicle if the tarriff was lowered. His reply was "no no Japanes buy Japanese cars--- Americans buy American cars". Smart Japanese.

I think there's more to it.
Much of the money goes to the employees and the share holders. That applies to all components of the vehicle. I think there is a strong relationship between a vehicles place on a list like that one and where your dollar goes.
Is that list the last word, no.

Absolutely correct! And as far as taxes, the US Government has NEVER given domestic production a level playing field. It has given massive tax breaks to foreign companies to build plants here. If you're wondering who IS paying the taxes to pay for the services these foreign plants use and require look in a mirror, it's you.

If it employs American workers to build products i dont care what you call it. its made in the usa.

more than i can say about 99% of the rest of the products people wont give a second thought to buying that are not made in the usa.

seems odd to me that you would put your support behind a US headquarted company that employees 0 us workers to build there products that they sell in the US as opposed to the companies that actually employ Americans to build products that are used by Americans regardless of were they are headquarted.

in a global economy define a US product.
1) made/built in the USA
2) made in some other contry but by a company headquarted in the US.
3) made in some other country, head quarted in some other country but 51% owned by US citizens.

so which is better. employ tens of thousands of US workers makeing products and send profits to a few hundred executives not in the US. or NOT employ tens of thousands of US workers but put money in the pockets of a few hundred US executives?

what's "send untaxed profits to some other country" is that after the SS tax medicare tax income tax that is removed from the workers pay by the us GOV. is that after they spend that money they were payed at the local store on food, gas, clothes which then get sales taxed. Or how about the property tax on there house they pay with the money they made from that job. Or the sales tax on that car that was sold at that local dealer who then had to pay income tax (as a local dealer) on that sale, and local property tax on his building.
