Great site, looking forward to some feedback from owners.
I have about 35 acres to hay, My current 27 PTO hp JD has to work way to hard to run my Heston 530 baler and 5' Kuhn mower, I am looking at a DK45se HST and would like to bump up to a 7' disc mower. Anybody run one? What is your take on it?
Thanks for the insight.

If it was a gear drive I would say yes but with hst no next size up 50-55hp for hst

I have a 45 hp and it runs a 6" hog no problems.
Usually run around 1800-2200 rpm with plenty to spare.

I believe the requirements for a disc mower and bush hog are considerably different.

I also think that your 45 hp tractor is *way* oversized for a 6 inch bush hog. :D

I can barely run a 9' New dea disc mower with my DK45 gear. Barely, on a flat in low range. It doesn't make sense for me to use it - that one needs at least 60HP minimum at the pto, and I have 38. You might be able to get away with turning a 7' Kuhn (I think they require less), but your ground speed would be slower, and hilly terrain would exacerbate the difficulty. Smaller and faster is sometimes better than larger and slower. Their 6'-something would be OK for the HST.

I just purchased a DK 40 SE HST, an I was going to use a 7' finish mower, the dealer said it would handle it no problem. Do you guys think he is correct?

I run a 6' RFM behind my 45 hst and it handles it very easily. I was contemplating going to a 7' footer until I got sticker shock. I'll stick with the 6' and llok for a 7' at auction or super reduced quick sale.

When I say very easily, let me be clear. When I cut my 8 acres, I scalp it as low as I can. When I let it go too long, and the grass/weeds/whatever is in there gets to about 8-12" and its wet, I do bog down some. Bog down some means I slow down a little, not stop and doesn't stall. When I say scalp, I am talking about leaving my grasslike stuff about 1" high at most. I run mine at about 2400 in mid range hst with pedal to the floor. I would love to run in high at 2600, but I don't think it would be good to cut like that.

Kioti has specs for what implements will go with which tractor: / hst /hp/ gear/etc. on their web site/or at the dealer's brochures. You may have to do a 'drill down' to find the info on their web site.
Good luck.

He is looking for a disc mower to cut hay not a bushhog or a finish mower
I went by 5-7 HP per FT of disc at PTO,
