I took my 17-year old son, Eli, up to ride the SVTR trails of Southern Vermont on July 3rd. We had a great time. The purpose was to give him his first "offroad driving lessons" since this was the first opportunity for him to spend extensive time with Rhino, now that school is out (plus he trypically works weekends).

This recent unseasonal wetness did make Joy Brook very photogenic -- and we took advantage.

Here's the link to a slideshow on FlickR of these photos of Joy Brook:

Here's the link to a slideshow/montage/movie that has some very brief video clips of the large waterfalls mixed in, set to music:

Here's one of our first attempts at shooting handheld video from the cockpit... I'm driving one of the more difficult trails.

I edited the remaining video of my son's driving into longer clips:

Part I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5P_kgJmvsQ

Part II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNcUipys7VU

Part III: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdlt6mkGr5M

Part 1V: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqydGQmSVaQ

The later clips show better action, as they show my son's increasing confidence. There's some mud at the end of Part III and early in Part IV, for example, while you can see him increase his speed in Part IV.

Enjoy, if inclined -- we certainly did...........

Kent,

Those are some nice pictures and nice videos of the trails!

You really do a great job making the YouTube videos!

Your son must have been real happy to get to drive on the trails, and I'm glad that you gave him some lessons first.... Around here people just turn their kids loose on adult ATVs and side-by-sides, and there has been a lot of them killed or hurt really bad.

I really liked the stream and i showed my wife the pictures, and she said that the water must really be cold and she really enjoyed the pics also..... Every time i show her a picture of VT she always brings up how cold it must be.:D

Liked i mentioned to you before, we are planning to come up in that area next year.

Does that small stream have trout in it ??

Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks!

My son took most of the still pictures while I was sitting on my keester listening to the waterfalls and eating my lunch... ;)

The software I use to edit these (muvee 6) makes putting the slideshows together a piece of cake. Doesn't work quite as well with real video...

I'm not sure if the brook trout make it upstream this far, but I'd imagine they do. I know I see lots of people fishing the river farther downstream.

The water was pretty cold -- in the lower 50's I'd guess -- you wouldn't want to wade it, unless it was necessary...

Thanks for letting me know about the software.... I need to learn how to make the slide-shows, and a YouTube.

I would love to fish that stream:D...... Back in the 80's my dad caught the state record brook trout in West Virginia. He kept the record for 4 years and a woman beat his record by 4oz.:D....I love to trout fish & I have a 20inch 5lb 6oz. rainbow trout that i caught in Gilbert WV in the guyandott river.

Thanks again!

Adding a few videos from Saturday's ride in Northern Massachuetts, not far from the New Hampshire border. I was trying out my new RAM camera mount, mounted on the front left rollcage upright, just above eye-level.

Too much vibration ... as these vids show. I've since moved it down just above the dashboard and will try again and see how that works.

Any way, here's three vids -- all have mixed conditions. The second one has more water and mud -- especially toward the end. The third one was starting to get a little dark in the dense woods, but has some decent higher speed stuff..

Part I YouTube - NQATV Club Ride, 7-25-09, Part I

Part II YouTube - NQATV Club Ride, 7-25-09, Part II

Part III YouTube - NQATV Club Ride, 7-25-09, Part III

Use the HQ setting for best results... and they still aren't really viewable full-screen due to vibration...
