What attachments did you THINK you needed but don't use much?

I've owned a box blade for quite a few years and it's had pleanty of use from time to time. However, I use the box blade fewer than any of my other attachments. I recently traded the box blade on a grader /scraper that better suits my needs.

Also, I don't seem to use my FEL forks very often...but they sure are handy when I need them.

#2 3PT splitter why run 45HP tractor to split wood.

I use to own one and i used it two seasons, and didn't like it.... I bought one that i can pull behind a truck or ATV.

Same thing on a PTO generator...Why run a tractor to power a home.

I owed one of them also and sold it.. I didn't like my tractor running all day supplying power and running up the hours, had to take off my BH before i could use it, and i couldn't use the tractor for other things if i needed it.

two things I simply don't use any more....

  1. a tilt meter... was interesting for about 1 day to see the actual angles I was working at... then, I realized that weight balance and distribution and height and rotational velocity were far,, far more influential than the angle of the terrain...now, this is for the work I do.... your angle may vary:rolleyes:
  2. a drawbar between the arms of the 3 point hitch. I use the actual under the tractor drawbar and I have welded receiver hitches to the rear of my box blade, 3 carryalls.... thus can use pin hitch or ball hitch even with any of my typical implements mounted.

Did you ever buy any that you don't use much and now are thinking of selling, or wouldn't miss much if you didn't have them?
7 1/2 foot 3pt disc. I can honesty say that I bought this with no idea whatsoever what I would do with it. It was just a very good deal on Craigslist.

Craigslist is my kryptonite.

I agree completely. A tilt meter is almost dangerous as it encourages you to watch it on a steep slope rather than watching carefully where your uphill and downhill tires are to avoid bumps/holes. As soon as I calibrated my seat of the pants meter (on my model the sphincter tightening occurs reliably at 15 degrees), that was all I needed to know.

I found the tiltmeter worth it just for calibrating my sphincter and various grades I'm on often - its pretty cheap money, and so even though I don't refer to it that often any more, I"m still glad I bought it.

Its also useful for grading.

I forgot I had a 3 point drawbar. Bought it with the tractor. Pretty much useless, certainly I've never used it.

In my application, the box blade was almost useless untill I added about 700 lbs of weights to it, a hydraulic top link and now it does a fine job for me.

I have a landscape rake I used when I developed my property. Do not use it anymore. Also A phd that I used for sonotube holes and with an 18inch tapered auger for planting a lot of bushes. Thats done. I also have a tiller that I plan to use a lot for garden soon. The rest of my stuff I use seasonally , FEL, Blower, snowplow, Bushhog, grader blade, forks, cement mixer (used to build potting soil mix.)
So I would have to say I have used everything at one time or another , some more than others. I don't think I would sell anything yet.

This thread has shown that a LOT of us have attachments/implements we needed at one time, want to keep, but don't use much now.

Except for spouses why don't we set up a "loan" forum?
If there is a member in great standing here who we can trust we should loan implements.
You want to borrow my Box Blade? Give me $500 down, borrow it, return it undamaged, I give you $500 back you give me ?
You need a 3pt tow hitch? Borrow mine.
I've a trailer I'm not using.

I've loaned things to neighbors and they have thoroughly messed things up so I'm aware of the danger in loaning tools.

Now if you want to borrow my spouse or tractor that's a DIFFERENT thing.
