Hello again,
I have been talking to some people about connecting a BH that I bought recently. They showed concern about the heavier hydro oil getting into my 955 when I attach it via the Power Beyond kit. They said I should pull all the hoses and get as much oil out of the cylinders and valve body as possible. Is the oil that much heavier than what the 955 uses?
Thanks...
Tony

I have no idea what oil is in the BH now, but I do think it's a good idea to flush the old/unknown fluid from any used piece of equipment you will add to your machine. The oil in a hydrostatic tractor is the life's blood and you should do everything possible from getting it contaminated. For the price of a couple gallons of new oil I can't see the downside.

What is the best way to get the oil out? I've been told to remove the oil lines from each cylinder and cycle them to get it out. Is there any way to connect it up to the high pressure side of the pb and then collect it off the return line before it goes back into the tractor?
Hope that is not a stupid question.

The safest way is to remove the hoses and cycle the cylinders. You could hook up the input to the hoe and put the return in a bucket then slowly operate the controls, but the fluid will come out at a high pressure and may get messy very fast!

Either way you choose-just be super careful.

I bought a new Woods backhoe and connected it to a new hydro tractor. I know that the hydro transmissions take the john deere hygard oil, but am too wondering if the oil that came in the backhoe would have any negative effects even though the amount of oil would be small. I now have 110 hrs with no problems yet.

There are several gallons of oil in your hoe attachment. My new hoes
come full of fluid, and it is a clear plain hyd oil, which I do not like to mix
with my expensive THF in the tractor. I have had good experience with
putting the main return hose in a bucket and articulating all the cylinders
with the help of an overhead hoist or FEL for the main boom. I bungee the
valve lever for the appropriate cyl first. Of course, this is much easier
if the hoe is mounted on the tractor first.
