A backhoe is almost completely submerged in the Green River in Kent after a worker lost control of the vehicle Tuesday.
A backhoe driver working near the Green River in Kent lost control of his vehicle Tuesday about 2 p.m. and the construction equipment ended up in the water. The driver escaped from the river unharmed.
Two large tow trucks, with an assist from the Kent Fire Department surface water rescue team, took an hour to pull the backhoe from the river and back on to the paved trail that runs along the river's east bank. The trail was temporarily closed.
Employees from Potelco Inc. were installing a power pole on the trail in the 20000 block of 58th Avenue Southeast. No other workers witnessed the backhoe rolling down the 40-50 foot embankment between the trail and the river.
