I'd like to sell a 90" rear finish mower that I bought new three years ago, but have only used a handful of times. I have no idea what a fair price would be?

I don't want to over price it so it doesn't sell, but I would like to get as much of my original investment back as possible, obviously. It's in excellent condition, garage kept, etc, which is important, but is there a rule of thumb to use? Like 75% of cost for excellent condition, 50% for good, 25% for poor, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help/guidance.

I just bought several used attachments an I found good stuff for about 60-70% of new. That runs about the same with other equipment I have sold in the past. A lot will depend on how many are available "used" in your market. Rear blades and Booms were cheap. Bush Hogs and trailers were not bad as well. Box Blade held it's value pretty well.

Thanks, Messmaker. I appreciate it! I think I'll try the 70% approach.

In my area, used attachemnts generally go for about 50% new.. real minty 'newish' ones can go for a lil higher.. perhaps 66-75 %... new old stock.. perhaps 80% or so.. depends on your market.. and how new the unit is..

In the Pacific Northwest it seems if everyones into "New Only", as they want full warranty, so they don't have to own a cresent wrench (adjustable spannner) to do any maintenance. You can't hardly give away somethin' more than 3 yrs old. 50 percent is doing great where I'm located. The bad times are not even a factor around here, so, everyone's drivin' a new Dodge of Ford king cab pickups, 'cept me. bjr

I live in a much different Pacific Northwest than you my friend. I will agree the recession isnt as formidable here vs. other areas of the country but used equipment prices have more than doubled and even tripled in some cases in the last 3 years. I used to give away old JD balers now I cant buy them. 3 point sickle bar mowers are commanding gold prices. I will normally accumulate 50 or so used tractors at auctions over the winter and then resell throughout the year but each auction we go to they are selling used equipment for more than I can sell the identical item new. So far this year we have bought zero auction equipment. Give us a call we can move that 3+ year old equipment no problem.

There is really no set depreciation on used equipment since it isnt based on the price you paid but what you would have to pay today. I know the Fed would say inflation is minimal but for example, in 2003 we sold 5 foot mowers for 400.00 the same mower today is 990.00. Would you want to sell the mower for 70% of what you paid or 70% of what it cost now? There is no evil in selling things for what they are worth. Find out what that mower cost new today and work from there.
