Complete newbie What Kubota for 3.1 acres

I'm not sure what weight you have in mind that your bridge will support, but be aware that a BX25 weighs about 3000 pounds with a driver on it.

I have lots of brush that would really destroy my Zero turn mower and I'd feel better with just using a blade or a backhoe to get it up and dump in the eroded areas along my creek. I want the bush hog for the front pasture-like land because of the type of plants that grow there and I could get up against the creek edge and back the bush hog up the edge where I cannot do that on my zero turn.

I chose Kubota due to what I've heard about their reliability. I am considering a John Deere also due to their quick attach implements, and reputation.

I don't have the need for much ground clearance and am looking at the smaller units because I want one small enough to cross my bridge. My 52 inch zero turn weighs in at aroudn 600 lbs with gasoline and my 290 makes it a half ton. I figure a bx1x50 or bx2200 would be perfect.

For what it's worth, I have a John Deere 2305 as well as my BX2660 and I much prefer the Kubota. Look at the deck and the blade belt, Kubota is twice as thick as the John Deere. The deck also raises up higher for much better ground clearance. The brake is on the left on the JD and the forward reverse pedal on the JD are side by side. My father in law hit the wrong one and ran his into a very deep pond. I also find the "joy stick" to be not as substantial and don't like the blade engagement on the JD.

I do like the steering linkage better on the JD as it is behind the axle and it has better ground clearance than the Kubota BX Series, but I haven't really needed it so far. It is an 08 model, so I can't say much about long term reliability. I did have my BX2200 for over five years without any problems and the new owner hasn't either and we both used it hard.

Not knocking the JD mind you, I just prefer the BX for my use.

Go for a blade - a BH is really way to much for that..

Your looking at a lot more weight w/ a BX or any SCUT.

Two years ago we moved to 3.1 heavily wooded acres with a small creek. I bought a zero turn which works great for the 2/3 acre of fenced yard of st. augustine grass, but the front acreage is full of many many trees and lots of brush around the creek. I have a small well built bridge that handle my 600 lb. zero turn 52 inch lawnmower. The Zero turn is getting beat up by the front acreage as it is more pasture than anything else. Bumpy and tough to cut.

I need a bush hog for cutting the tough stuff and brush, and an FEL to move dirt rocks etc. to help work on erosion around the creek.

I was thinking the BX1750/2350 size. What do y'all think?

What this 'all thinks is that the decision on brand name has been premature.

Backhoes are like washing machines....

Once you have one, it's just really hard to live without.

A lot of people don't have A BH because then sell them short.

I have a BX 24 and find it a very capable machine. The only complaint I can think of is FEL lifting capacity and lack of things such as FEL forks and what not. Also without loaded tires I find that the tractor runs out of traction when doing some work with the 3pt. Also implements for the 3pt finding used cat 1 and cat 2 equipment that works with the BX is tough in my neck of the woods. I have a woods 5ft grading blade that is too much for the tractor....... My suggestion / recommendation is go with a B unless you have really tight spots to get into.

Why do you have 2 tractors of the same size and type?

I have two primary locations which I need these types of tractors. On the one where I keep the John Deere, my son and grandson also use it and they also use a JD 425, so I didn't want another JD in a pond when someone got confused. I also got the JD before I sold my BX2200 and kind of wanted to check the JD out anyway. Using the JD convinced me that I really preferred the Kubota, so I then bought the BX2660. Since my wife retired and started using my BX2660 so much, I may have to buy another one; wonder how a New Holland would do...

Unless you know you will need a BH, I'd save the $$$ you can always add it later... In 2 years I have needed one twice and got away with the bucket for the first job and rented for the second job...

Thats alot of implement to be leaving on all the time , or sucking up storage space unless you know you'll be using it....
