Maybe passed good deal on JD 750?

Today looked at an '85 JD 750 compact. Gear driven, 4WD, ag tires, no attachments, suitcase weights, 1500 hrs. 2nd owner, tractor has been used only to cut fields/lawn w. rear rotary + some recent rototilling. Very nice shape, no blow-by, clean oil, regular service, good rubber--tires not loaded--kept indoors, everything I tested (all gears & clutch, low/high range, 4WD in/out, PTO control, lights) worked fine. Powerful, quiet & clean little machine that looked about 5 years old vs. 25.

I came very close to buying for about $4500 & decided I should quit looking until I get a pole barn up & a trailer & truck to haul the tractor (my V6 Toyota would struggle). I guess I didn't expect to find one I liked so much in the "looking to determine what I want" phase. Probably shoulda bought it and figured the other stuff out later...

Sounds like a good tractor for the money if it is what you need you may rethink this. That is a good simple little tractor and $4500 is a downpayment on a new one.

The Toyota is not heavy enough to stop the tractor and trailer.

Well, I would love to find a deal like this......and I drive a V6 Tacoma. Maybe spinning smiley faces would help it stop faster?

a Tacoma V6 should be more than enough to haul this tractor. The tractor is only 1900lbs. Just buy a 14 x 5 double axle trailer with brakes on both axles (Big tex makes them, I have one) and there should be no problem!!!

1 & 2*Ok you 2 I just don't get it .
The minute I suggest hauling my BX with my Toyota or Nissan truck everybody else says I can't do it.
What am I missing here?

Why are you fellows rite an everybody else wrong?
Why is it when others say the same thing I did they don't get their heads lopped off like i did ?

I guess they figure you are a easy target....

But a 1400lb BX on a 1300lb trailer is 2700lbs. This is well below the capacity of your vehicle, but you SHOULD have 2 brake axles for the best stopping with a light tow vehicle.

The 750 is tight at 1800lbs and 1300lbs.... but you could go down to a 10 or 12 foot trailer for a 200 or 300lb weight reduction.

The 5 foot wide trailer saves several hundred pounds over a 6.5 wide trailer.

Under is under, if my boss caught me only loading 78,000lb on my 80,000lb work truck I would be looking for another job!! I always figure if you can accelerate at the same rate as a loaded Semi your good but if you can stop in a shorter distance even better. This would mean from 65 if you can stop in less than 420 feet you are good. That is the average distance for a loaded Semi, it is considerably further for a empty truck!!!!

Thanks for the input, guys. I drive a '97 T-100 3.4l V6 w. far less torque than the newer 4.0l Tacomas. I've been eyeing new Tacomas, Tundras, F-150s but haven't bought one because I love my T-100 so much; bought it new. It's rated for 5K towing but I know from experience that 3K-4K is 'well felt'. I also need to tow long distance once/twice per year, 800 miles each way. Plus the issue of storage. So I'm going to get the hauling & storage figured out first.

I also thought long & hard about my use for a tractor & 'need a loader' stands out. Adding a Koyker to the 750 would push it to about $7500 I think. I'd rather buy one w. the original JD model loader.

If anybody is interested in the tractor it was on CL Michigan Saginaw/Bay City/Midland vicinity if it's still for sale. Asking price was $4850.
