A 30 amp relay should be fine. Both new circuits draw less than 7.5 amps on my tractor. My tractor used to eat ignition switches and relays before I did this mod. now it doesn't. I can now count on my tractor starting every time.

The diagram may look complicated at first, but it's really not once you work through it.

This mod. makes sure the starter solenoid gets a crisp jolt of 12 volts from the battery when you turn the key even if dirty safety interlocks provide only less than perfect connection. In theory the original design should work. I don't know exactly why it doesn't. As I've said before - I didn't invent this mod. It's a common thing in machines with complex starting circuits (like having lots of safety interlocks). The circuit should have been designed this way from the begining.

This is not a cure-all. If you have a bad battery cable, connections, ground, ignition switch that problem needs to be fixed as well.

I've attached the diagram again in case any else can benefit from it.

This is a worthwhile mod in some (many?) situations, but the OP needs to find the source of his voltage drop, which is NOT in the NSS circuit. I seriously doubt adding a relay to this tractor will cure it.

I agree - I should have been more clear. You will see my post was directly after RCannon, who may only need this mod. and nothing further. His problem could be low voltage at the starter solenoid. OhioCowboy likely has at least one other problem to deal with.

Steve, you were plenty clear. I just didn't want the OP to jump on this relay mod and think it was his cure. I'd be quite surprised if it is.

Battery cable connections were oxidized. I wire brushed the cable battery ends and it started right up. Here is what I think happened to me. Due to me constantly taking the cables off the battery, I started the bad habit of just twisting them on and off (thinking that they were tight enough) and not tightening the bolt, the inside of the connector oxidized because it was a loose fitting connection. It looked OK but no voltage reading woth the VOM.
