Has anyone seen any plans to attach a bandsaw to the 3pt, run it off the PTO, and have the tractor run on tracks slightly elevated so you can clear the log?
Have the log rest on jacks so the log can be raised as it's cut down, with the 3Pt also allowing adjustment. And with my 1/4 inching valve I could adjust cuts by 1/4 inch.

Sounds like a neat idea but I don't think it would work all that great. It would probably be to jerky to get a straight cut, plus why would you want to tie up your tractor?

maybe you could rig up a 3pt hydraulic mill that would run off the tractor? Just park the tractor hook up the mill and cut?

If I'm sawing wood I'm not doing anything else.
This Linn Lumber Mills will take a 36" log and wants about 18HP.
More seat time :)

I haven't seen any plans like this; but it's simple, and it sounds easy enough. Lay the log down, fire up the saw, and then drive down the log to make the cut. If you spent a little more time dreaming and designing, you could probably come up with some system so you don't even need jacks. Just use the 3 pt. to adjust to the next board. That way you don't ever have to leave the seat. You may even be able to work out some mechanism to push the cut board out of the way as you back up to make the next cut.

There are a lot of plans sites out there that have sawmill plans. You could probably adapt something. I wonder how well the elevated tracks are going to work. I'm thinking by the time you build something to hold a tractor, it's going to get pretty costly. If you're not worried about it being portable, you could just dig a trench somewhere on your place to lay the logs in.

There are many possibilities with this idea. Keep us posted as to your thoughts and developments.

Or, maybe put the log table on rollers and let the saw head stay put, kinda like the circular saw mills, then adjust the saw head for thickness of cut?

Seems like it would be easier than moving the tractor and would be more accurate.

I have looked into an electric motor driven mill, all the manufacturers offer one, and a 3point generator, mostly because I want to run the mill inside during the winter. You could just un plug to load logs onto the bunks and plug back in to run machine. Also generator has some other uses.

I would put the saw head on a conventional grounded track and use the tractor for power and longitudinal travel, letting the 3ph float.

I have a hud-son oscar 28{20'track} the tractor is used to carry the logs to the mill then I throw the slab wood back on the tractor and cut it up for fire wood. Even though I'm not operating the tractor it is still being used while I'm operating the mill. Makes for easier clean up with less down time due to slab wood. I was allways interested in the old mills that hook to the old belt drives on ole tractors. They have a wood show up here every year and there are all types of different mills and inventions. I've never seen anything like what your suggesting but I'll keep an eye open this year.

I can't imagine that you'd achieve any kind of accuracy at all with that configuration! The flex in the sidewall of the tires alone would vary in the course of ride on an elevated 12' long (?) ramp/track. Then again you could use the lightest driver (grandkid?) for the first pass, Mom, for the second pass, dad for the third pass, and cut three boards with no TPH adjustment! Have you thought of building your 'track' with 12" dia steel pipe? Just peel the rubber off the rims, adjust the tread width, and your good to go! :D
