wild hog attack

Have you ever tried to donate a fresh killed hog to a food bank?

Really doubt they would take it even if it had been processed. Really sure they aren't going to come out and pick it up and take it for processing.

Many may disagree with me on this but ferel hogs should be eradicated by any means possible and I won't waste the time to process them at all.

I pick the skulls up after the ants clean 'em up.

I AGREE....they can tear the crap out of a pasture. I've been lucky and haven't had them around last couple of years, but 3 years ago they really messed things up. I will kill them any chance I have. I disagree on processing them....not just all of them but choats the right size can be some very good eating.

Hogs are taking over our Sipsey Wilderness / Bankhead forest in North Alabama. They are destroying the wildflower population and primitive cemeteries, eat the limited food supplies of our turkey and deer and have generally just upset the balance of nature around the area. The FS has an active trapping programming going and they have 2 or 3 weeks of dedicated hog hunting per year on the management area.

A friend told me here's how he lures the hogs in front of his shooting stand. Soak 50 lbs. of corn in a barrel of water for 3 or 4 days until it sours. Dip the corn out and save the water. Dig a 3 to 4 foot deep hole with post hole diggers and pour the corn into it. Pour the water around and into the hole on top of the corn. He said they will cover the area up and keep coming back even after scared off by shooting.

His second method, called "ringing the dinner bell" saves time. Pour the soured corn into a barrel, seal the top and cut a small hole in the side. Attach a bell to the edge of the barrell. When you hear the bell, you know it's shooting time. He said he had driven right up to the hogs rolling the barrell around without scaring them off.

In Alabama this is illegal because it's baiting so beware if you try it.

Yeah, he has a lot of good stuff. I only live about 6 miles from his business. Should be a good auction. But I guess I'll be going to the Piney Chapel Tractor show near Athens. Supposedly the largest one in the state.
