F250 7.3 PSD towing 10,000 lbs tractor?

It's not that I don't want a 5th wheel or a gooseneck. If I have to spend a lot oh money, it needs to go to the boss first. :)

But I do like the gooseneck though.

Is the Boss aginst the cost?

A GN and hitch isn't really that much more money.

I also don't know if there's limitations to a gooseneck and a 6.5' bed.

There is not.

It is just a little easier to clip the cab with the trailer.

All you have to do is follow the man I saw the other day. He was pulling a D-20 Kamatsu Dozer with a single rear wheel pickup. If he can pull that, then you should be just fine. HaHa

Isn't a D-20 under 9k #? That shouldn't be that big a deal.

just as long your truck dont look like this. LOL
i tow a 10000 lb 5th wheel with my 250 and have no problem, but wouldn't think of it off the bumper. i had a 35ft travel trailer that was 8000lbs and was a hand full on the highway. the hitch in the bed is the only way to tow heavy

I'm not sure of the actual weight. I guess it is more of a visual thing to see a SRW Pickup pulling a Dozer. I know the 873 Bobcat w/steel tracks I had was around 9k, so 9k for a D-20 seems just a little low to me.

That picture of course was rigged...the leading edge of the 5th wheel is touching the rear glass on the tow vehicle, and that's with both in a straight line. Wouldn't be able to turn a corner. (Not to mention the ludicrous hitch setup or of course how overloaded it is)

OK, Towing a 10K lbs tractor without a GN is possible but not recomended for daily use then? I have this problem right now. I need to get my tractor to my new property about a 1.5 hour drive. Using a Diesel crewcab dodge is the only difference. I am unsure if I will attemt this or not. I read this thread looking for some sort of consensus.

Seems like you should be able to do it at least on local hauls. For over 2 yrs now I tow a 9500lb tractor around say 50mi radius of my house on a 14K deckover behind a 1ton express van. And I don't have a 7.3 pulling for me. I did beef up hitch to a Titan and added AirLift so it always rides level or above. If I can do it you should have no trouble. Key to it is going to be the trailer. A good stout trailer will make any load easier to pull.
OBTW, that ole chev has 55,000mi, almost all of it towing at or near gross weight and it has been flawless. Last tranny oil change oil looked as good as when it was put in. Turbo 400's may not have the best gear ratio but they are tough trannies.

I just got a 5th wheel hitch, and a ~7400lb 5th wheel rv/travel trailer. Not a big deal with my 2500 Dodge.

Can someone explain why travel trailers are 5th wheels, but utility trailers, horse trailers, are goosenecks? Advantages/disadvantages?
