They also re-painted the earlier dominators as "Ford" combines and replaced the perkins or merc with a ford motor..!

Yes, I forgot about that.

The last I heard the top 3
1. Agco(MF and all the other brands in the corporate umbrella)
2. JD
3. CaseIH(and associated brands)

for total Ag equipment sales worldwide. That would include tractors and all associated agriculture equipment.

According to this report Deere is number 1, CNH 2, AGCO #3. This is based on dollar volume for total ag equipment sales, it also lists Deere as the worlds largest maker of Ag equipment.

This is a article from Dec. 2008 on sales for the quarter.

Deere has been #1 for a while, they have aquired several companies over the years, just no main players like Agco and CaseIH have.

Read the wiki on Agco's history, its insane how much they have gobbled up in competition. I m surprised they are still third.

This report came from an ag industry trade journal last spring. It had ag sales outside the North America as CNH at 8 billion, Deere at 7 billion and Agco at 6 billion. When including North America (US & Canada) it changed quite a bit, Deere at over 16 billion, CNH at 13 billion and AGCO at over 8 billion.
Claas is another that has stuff made for them by others, some Claas tractors were made by Cat. I don't see how anyone could claim anything other than total sales volume, not largest manufacturer

Claas has owned a controlling interest in the French built Renault Tractors for a while now and they do sell well in Europe. They also do build one aticulilated bi-directional tractor themselves. CAT built very few Challengers for Claas and Claas still builds it's Lexion Combines in Nebraska and are probally no.1 with their forage harvestors in world.

CLAAS of America Inc.-Mähdrescher, Futterente

The Challenger Line ( formaly CAT) has been built by Agco for nearly a decade now. They are still marketed through CAT dealers as well as the Claas Lexion combine. The confusing part of all of this is that AGCO also markets it's Challenger Combine through CAT dealers.

It is Great to have so many choices!!!:D

Happy tractoring!!!;)

That I did not know, So the Cat Ag dealers have Lexions and Challenger combines sitting beside each other for sale on the lots?

To bad Cat dealers in my area do not sell 1 piece of ag equipment and that Claas does not sell there tractor lines in N.A, I got stuck purchasing a New Holland T7030.

If you look at the Claas using cat tractors quote it does say "were". It may have been used as in the past as an example of others making product for others since that seems to be the rest of thet post. I don't know why but Claas Forage harvesters seem to be very popular, yet nothing more from them here. It seems like they have trouble selling other machines in the states. I know they have , as others have stated, marketed combines under Ford, and MF, I even saw and old Claas here once. The Lexion Combines are no longer just a Cat dealer item. I have seen them at Claas dealers, and some others which before they were not. Whats also misleading is the Lexion combines are all painted Cat yellow with a large Cat symbol on the side. Yet Cat pulled out of that partnership in 2002 right after selling it's ag div. to AGCO. They do still have Cat engines, and possible the track system I think is also from Cat.

I also wonder if cat dealers will continue to carry AGCO's Challenger line. The original deal was to keep Cat engines and trans in the equipment. The new stuff for next year has a Sisu Diesel and CVT trans in some models. Even MF is changing from Perkins (Cat owned) engines and going to Sisu in some models.

I wish Claas would market their tractors in NA also. They are a great looking tractor. I did see a XERION Tractor setting at their North American Parts Distrubution Center in Columbus, Indiana. They are availible in the US now.

Our largest CAT dealer in Indiana (which is the only one) has been taking over a couple of AGCO dealerships. So I would believe some CAT dealers which have done well in the ag equipment business, might try this as well. Our CAT dealer handles the Lexion line still.

I'm no real fan of Wiki only due to as much misinformation as anything. In the case of AGCO it only tells the modern history, not the full rich history of the brand. Hart Parr which merged with Oliver, which later merged with White, Cockshutt, and Minneapolis-Moline to form White farm equipment. Rumley Oil Pull that merged with Allis Chalmers (more like bought out by), these were some of the oldest tractor companies out there.

Around here of the AGCO brands Challenger is the only one I see with new tractors out on a couple of Farms. Too some degree I think that is partly due to the limited dealer's in the is area. 15 miles to the east you see a lot of Ford/new Holland, due to a large dealer that way. Here and to the west you see a lot of Deere and CaseIH due to again that's what dealers carry this way and has been for many years. Another reason though is for a company to be bought up, it usually is in decline for one reason or another. AGCO was able to get these brands together due to this. Even CaseIH, IH was down for different reasons and Case was able to split the ag division off. In the end I think that help both in the short term, but hurt long term. Case ran IH like it did itself. Bought engines from Cummins (joint venture), hay equipment from heston, stopped making a large amount of it's own product. Another factor in this is the fall of the small farm, less farms equals less customers, equals less demand. I think it has been about 6 or 7 years now tractors under 50 HP outsell all tractors above that range. Now AGCO is killing off brand names, Allis, White, New Idea, etc. are gone. With these names dies a long history of tractors and AG equipment.

What I think helps Deere is loyalty and that you can get parts for most of what they made. Very rare to here that you can't get parts for a Deere. Over time I think this is only going to get worse with AGCO and CaseIH.

At one time New Holland mad the cabs & controls for the Cat tractors, which Agco now makes for Cat. I haven't kept up, but at one time all 3 companies were involved in those machines, anyhow for a year and now for parts support still.

I forget which way it went, but John Deere (or Case?) bought out a self propelled sprayer maker, and to fullfill the contracts in place, had to ship them for a year or 2 with Case (or JD, if it's the other way engines in them.

Ah, parts support has to be interesting.

Agco is big worldwide.

Fent is big worldwide.

Fiat is really big - they own both Case and New Holland.

I think you better be careful looking up internet info or looking at self-serving home web pages that tend to inflate the home team. :) It all depends on just how you word the question.....
