Sorry, I goofed and placed this on the Kioti forum!

Yesterday, I was cutting thick blackberry brambles and thick weeds and I noticed the transmission/hydraulics overheating. Oil levels were fine. It has a remote valve controlled by one lever. It appears the lever has three positions up/float/down. I know if the lever is left up the oil could deadhead and cause heat build up. The lever was in the down position and I am wondering if this could cause deadheading too. By the way the rotary cutter is a 3-point model and there was nothing hooked to the remote. Do any of you have other suggestions as to waht would make it overheat and what damage could the overheating cause? Thanks for any help you can give. The tractor has 970 hours on it.

Red, the easiest way to answer your question is to tell you to put the remote lever in the neutral position and then move it downward to that position slowly. If you hear the engine load up and then the hydraulics go to bypass, it means you are forcing the hydraulics to run in bypass all the time with the lever down or up and that generates plenty of heat. I'm surprised that your 3PH lift worked because normally remotes are in the open-center system before the 3PH. However, because you were in bypass, the 3PH probably had some backpressure available to the lift. Keep that remote in neutral or float and you will make your hydraulics work much better I am sure.
