I was just wondering what is the farthest anyone has driven their tractor over the road. I drove mine today for 7 miles to complete a small task and it seemed like it took forever.

~75 miles when I was helping a custom applicator. Those tractors went about 25 mph.

Mine goes 16mph, it just seems a little hard on the machine, maybe I am being paranoid. Why else would they give it flashers and an SMV emblem:rolleyes:

I drove mine 4 miles down the road, and back, once.

It seems like it is a fast tractor, until you go down the road, then it seems like it's a slug.

Driving on roads has got to wear the tires faster.

Back in the day on the farm. Custom harvesting bush beans (green beans) or field corn in the Willamette Valley, Oregon could be a 50 mile one way trip with a Case or David Brown harvester and 2 axle dump bin. Total vehicle length about 40 feet. Interstate and secondary roads, occasionally at night because when the harvest is on it's around the clock. This is done in the harvest season for almost all crops. I have a brother that is a mechanic for harvesters. For years he would follow the harvesters to various fields in a convoy, numerous pickers all over the Northwest. All to get food on the table for those people who don't have a clue where their food comes from.
Regularly tractors with equipment are roaded 15 to 20 miles between farms as needed for ground prep or harvest.
Did I mention that I was 15 to 18 years old at the time.
The good old days.

When I was in high school (late 1960s), my dad bought an International Super C (or maybe H) with a manure spreader - and I drove that thing about 30 miles. Started in a small town, went right through the city where I went to school, and home to a small town.

Funny how it seemed cool when I was in the country; but not so much in the middle of the city.

Since then, when I had my JD 755 and owned 2 houses about 10 miles from each other, I had to go back and forth a few times to do some yard work. I'd just wait for a nice day, light up a good cigar, and head out. :D

Now I sometimes take the tractor to visit a neighbor with an orange tractor (~ 1/2 mile), but that's about it.

I occasionally help out a neighbor with tractor tasks-- about 2 miles one way (Thomas' old house, in fact!). Takes some time, but I get there. What I worry about most is the high speed traffic we sometimes encounter on our little roads....

Hard to beat an hour to yourself on a nice summer/fall day, cruising on the tractor with a fine cigar.

If only I could have had a cigar-appropriate beverage (on the rocks)...but that was before these tractors came with cup holders. Pre-iPod, too.
