I'm a weekend warrior on the tractor, and don't really do anything except bushhog my place (8.8 acres, all grass, one stinkin' tree). I've about decided to get rid of the tractor since that's what it was bought for, and to just get a 60" pro mower, mainly b/c of the time it takes to cut currently vs. the time it takes my neighbor with his ExMark mower. I'm roughly 3 times as long getting the same thing done.

Anyhow, I have zero idea of how much I should realistically expect to get out of the implements I have, so I thought y'all might be able to help me decide what to ask/take for them:

1) a 6' Grizzly SD (standard duty) brush mower. Has a stump jumper, but also has a couple spots that need welding/repair on the right rear corner. Works fine every time I've used it, though it was getting loud when I used it and rattling a good bit. Turns out that the bolts on the top of the deck needed tightening (who knew?). Now it's fine. Has a few areas of rust on the deck.

2) A 6' Tuffline box blade, Model TB2-72. The kind with the teeth on the front side (7?). It's in good shape, a couple spots of rust on the corners where paint has chipped off, but no issues at all. Looks to be in very good condition.

3) a Curtis brand 6' finishing mower. To be honest, the guy I got the tractor from also sold me all the implements, and this one has never been used at my place. No idea why I never used it, but I literally have never hooked it up and used it. Just been sitting, and was serviced just before I bought it (new belt, etc.). Know nothing more about it.

As you can see, I'm trying to tell every detail, because I want to get a fair assessment of the value for these. So, what do y'all think?

Are you mowing as often as your neighbor. A 45hp tractor with a 6' mower should be able to fly through the grass. The finish mower might be faster. If your ground is to ruff to go any faster on the tractor it will be 10 times worse on a ZTR.Test one on your property before you buy one.

The thing that gets me is that it's not rough, but the layout is not rectangular, but irregular. The house sits on the front 1/3, and there's a pasture that kinda takes a "D" shaped bite out of the area behind the house. Throw in the one tree, the barn, my daughter's playset, and there are just enough issues to slow down the whole thing. Pretty smooth ground, except for probably 1/2 acre or so that's always wanting to wash. Might try the finishing mower out, just for grins. Hey, won't cost me anything, will it? :D

I fully agree with otherposter that you need to demo a ztr on your property for a complete mow before you buy, I did not dothis& amcompletely redoing my 5.8so I can actually gofaster than 5mph with a 72" 37 hpZTR I have. That 72" finish mower you have & only one tree, should be a pieceof cake.I haveover 100 trees to go around & did that without ZTR for a very long time, there is so much you can do with tractor that ZTR can, a seriouse 1 trick pony they are. You can get a bazzion differant attachmentsif you ever decide togo to war with your lawns & anythingelse you can thing of. I would not sell what you have for simply wanting a ZTR,Now having both is a differant story..*s* I almost sold my ZTR because of it bieng so rough here, so now I spent all summer, filling & grading & next year will be able to fly much faster, but if not for the 100+ trees to go around, I never would have got ZTR. I would have bought a killer finish mower the exact size you have

I tried out a ZTR and I am glad I did. It did not do well on the hills of my lawn. Strait up and back down, OK. Drive down forward was like riding a sled. and traversing the slope it was constantly fighting its way down hill. I took it back and bought a BX1500 and feel like it was the best move for my property.

I don't see how you can maintain a lot that size with just a ztr. If you get caught in the spring and it is too wet to mow for a couple of weeks you will be hosed without the power of your tractor.

Keep the tractor and buy a ztr. You will have the best of both worlds.

Okay, okay, you guys wore me down! :D

I'm gonna attach the finishing mower and try it out in a high range gear some time this week. Any suggestions on what speed works the best? I usually brush hog in H2.

BTW, I'm soliciting some input about the PTO speed selector on a thread down in the Mahindra owners' section-I can't seem to get the PTO to work in anything but the HI (1000 rpm) range, and I'm thinking that's a bit fast. What speed do y'all use when using brush hogs/finishing mowers?

As far as I know all 3pt implements use only 540 rpm pto.

Went home at lunch and tinkered with the PTO selector, it was (gasp) user error/idiocy. Turned it on at low (540) rpm, and the bush hog worked fine. Plan to run the finishing mower tonight in H3 or so, and will let y'all know how this goes.

Congrats on the BX1500 .
It will do so much more than a Z T R >

Very good advice and points.
