So the manual for my SQ720 says that I should use EP80w-90 gear oil but my auto parts store (all that's open tonight) has SAE 80w90 gear oil.

Are these basically the same?

Thanks

EP refers to Extreme Pressure additives added to high quality gear lubes. Most major brands will have this package. Usually it is prominently announced on the packaging.

Nothing to do with Europe.

Hmm, I went to the local Advance Auto and bought SAE 80w-90. It was about $11/gallon. Hope that does the trick.

just about any gl4/5 gear oil would likely work.

100% correct. EP just means extreme pressure and any quality 80W90 gear oil will have this. The Auto Zone stuff will be fine.
