seems now I'm a bit allergic to em enough that the stung area is burning itching for several days & wanted to know if anyone had something good to put on it that might work to make it go away.
so anything that gets rid of the burning & itching?
Hi Mark,
My 2 cents would be:
1. Get some liquid benedryl and keep it handy. I think your burning/itching are part of a histimine reaction?? You might also take a normal benedryl.
2. I'd find out about having access to an Epi-pen. In case you or someone else has a severe reaction something like that can be life saving. I think mine costs something like $10 when I get them refilled? (refilled is defined as replaced)
I'm no Doctor and never had any reactive issues to stings until several years ago. Ended up in the emergency room with an IV and several viles of vile stuff being pumped into me to make me able to breath.
I had NEVER had an adverse reaction to stings...then all the sudden wham.
My point is... you dont know that you've become sting reactive until after your next episode and for some people that's too late for them.
The epi pens require a prescription, the liquid benedryl doesn't and it might buy you a few more minutes of time.
I'm now getting sting shots from an allergist. They want me to take a Claritin the day PRIOR, day of and the day after my allergy shots. This is supposed to reduce my reaction to the actual shots.
I usually remember, but not always. We can almost always tell when I forget because the reaction around the shot areas (I get 3 shots) are larger, bigger and more vibrant red when I forget to take the Claritin.
The last time I got stung, prior to my hospital episode... I was digging and found a nest. I think I got about 9 yellow jacket stings. I had either 5 on my face and 4 on my legs/arms or 5 on legs/arms and 4 on face. I forget. What I don't forget is my face was puffy for maybe an entire week afterwards. It really lingered.
Little did I know at the time but somewhere between then and later on, I crossed the threshold of allergic reaction.
When the stupid little wasp stung me....it happened on November 30 and was becoming quite cool outside. You might relate with how lethargic they are at that time of year.
I don't know how the allergic scale works but after my episode I went to the allergist. Come to find out that of all the stinging little SOB's, I'm the least allergic to a wasp (which is what landed me in the emergency room). I'm more allergic to bees and then a quantum leap to yellow jackets and hornets where I'm highly allergic.
Seems it was lucky for me that it was a lowely wasp that busted my chops that day. Had it been a yellow jacket or hornet I might have had a more intense reaction. Since I live 15 miles out of town, a more intense reaction might have given me a really bad day.
Now I keep some liquid benedryl handy as well as several epi-pens (home/work)
Good luck with your battle with the little SOB's. Next time you torch them, give them a small extra dose of gasoline from me please? Send them my love.
