My Church is considering buying an enclosed car trailer like race car teams use. We would be storing chairs and tables in it. We need to move it from the parking lot to our building, maybe 100 yards of travel on an occasional basis (2 or 3 times a year). The parking lot is pretty level. I have a 2005 Tundra which has a max towing capacity of 6500 lbs. I don't know the weight of the trailers at this time. Does anyone see a problem exceeding the towing capacity of the truck for that short a distance?

Thanks for any and all input on this.

It's doable. Is having a trailer preferable instead of other options ? Perhaps a old school bus that still runs but not road worthy ? or get a used truck trailer and leave it parked and use your truck to move stuff?

Just to move it around a parking lot if the trailer is balanced you could do it with a riding lawn mower. We have pulled large loaded forage wagons with ATV's in farm yards (just for fun and I would never try this on a grade). The tow rating is for highway safety, stopping and controling the load. In level parking lot you could pull a loaded semi and not have an issue.

The chairs are on racks with wheels. We are hoping that we can push the racks up the ramp. We need a low trailer to do this.

Here are a few examples. Curb weight of the trailer is 2300-2600 lb. Your Tundra will have no problem moving a trailer like this over your parking lot.

I have done a lot of work for NASCAR and I thought you were referring to this kind of hauler

Haulmark Trailers Stacker Car Trailers

I was like, nope, that ain't gonna happen...

Why not be cheap, by a 40 foot cargo container and put a couple of axles on it. Or a bunch of casters... Then you could push it by hand.... I am being serious for those who don't think I am being serious...

No problem at all. Just hook it up with a good hitch and put the trans in 1st gear and it'll be fine.

I do not see the need for the upkeep, license or expense. I would just put in a shed, or a cargo container.

The cost of a trailer ect could certianly be better spent in a church or thier youth group.

I don't think we will license it. It will not go off of our property.
The cost is roughly $2000 used. We are doing this so we can clear chairs out of the Gym so that the youth can play basket ball. So it is for our youth group.

A shed would require a building permit and approval from the town for appearance. Also we can move the trailer to the building for loading and then to the other end of the parking lot where we have plenty of space.
