Same problem. But with rats.
Use stick-type rat bait. Don't let pets get into it. The bait can be purchased at TSC or feed stores.

Try bounce fabric softener sheets, they hate the smell and will not go anywhere near them, I use them in my hunting cabin and put them by the door or wherever else you think they can get in and around the beds to keep them out of the linens, and as a bonus it allways smells nice in there.

Decon rat and mouse poison. The sticky traps seem to prolong their death. Make sure you put it where pets cannot to it.

Right. One of my dogs ate a poisoned bar and nearly died. It was in a place I though he couldn't get to. After $500 in vet bills the vet said to be sure to put the bait high up since rats routinely climb. On a tractor's engine should be fine.

Thanks for all the replys. I guess the mouse took the hint and moved on. I will have to keep an eye open in case he comes back.

another mouse story. I started up the Kubota one day, and when I applied throttle, black smoke, what the hey? Pulled the filter and cleaned it and reinstalled. Same thing. Purchased new filter and installed it . Same thing black smoke. Left the air filter off, ran good, no smoke. Hmmm. Something is blocking the air, I said. Looked into the air tube, saw nothing. However I noticed a bend in the air duct, so I made a coat hanger hook thingy, and pushed it up in there, and pulled out a large mouse nest. Persistence paid off. True story.

Sheesh! how do we get rid of mice completely ?! but then we wouldnt have stories to tell.

Be careful what you wish for. I don't think you can get rid of them completely. Fortunately things like snakes, owls, and cats, etc to keep the population in check. Although you can kill them with poisons, they die and stink up the place. Electronic rat/mice traps, etc. Vacuum system with feeder and trip system would suck them into a wet/dry vac with soapy water in it.
A mouse motel, they check in, but never check out, alive, that is.
Years ago, I made an electric rat/mice killer, by using a piece of wood covered with heavy tin foil, I cut a 1 in hole out of the center of the tin foil, and added an aluminum gutter spike to the center. I connected one wire to the base, and the other to the spike, and placer peanut butter on the spike head. When the rat/mouse stood on the tin foil, and touched the spike, contact was established, and you know the rest. Do not use something like around kids or animals.
