My new backhoe thumb

Even with the moter at the lowest speed, feathering the controls doesn't work really well. Especially the sideways control. Very frustrating. Maybe someone can give me a hint on the side ways control.

Strong backhoe, but I wish it'd get off the steroids once in awhile..

Why don't you ask on the hydraulics forum? There must be a flow control valve that you can plumb in somewhere. Isn't it just a mater of reducing the GPM's (without generating heat)?

Ya, that is the biggest draw back doing it with the thumb.
Gotcha on the install/uninstall time though.

OLD THREAD BUT......

I went to start working the tractor this weekend and noticed something very very bad, my dipper stick arm had a 2" crack in it on one side and 2 small 1/2 -3/4 inch cracks on the other side. Both cracks were up at the top portion of the plate I welded to the arm for the thumb to mount on.
I spent most of the day saturday welding and grinding to repair the cracks. I first cleaned the cracks and welded them closed, then i welded soome 3/8 plate 6" x 3" inch over the area to beef it up.

Did you pre-heat steel and post heat steel after welding?

Boom probably made from high strength steel, something besides A-36. Often requires addational heat to prevent stress cracks from starting in the weld as it cools.

i did preheat before i welded the crack and the plates over the crack, kinda freaked me out to be honest. I wonder if just that arm is available from kubota?
I dont really know when the craks happened, I have "dead headed" the hoe on several different ocasions llately,pulling stups, and concrete chunks out of a drive way. I am more worried now after seeing some old post with bent cylinders on Kubota BH.
As for high strength steel i am unsure, the stuff welds real easy with my 110 mig.

Perhaps that's why the woods seems to be stiffened up at the back and hinges on the bucket.

In the pics i have found it looks like the woods dipper arm is designed completly different than the botta, the botta is like a c channel with a welded in piece to close the "C". The woods looks like an almost box design, I see an overlapping piece on the top and bottom. I would imagine this adds alot of strengh and weight.
