Be careful with XM, my experience is if you decide you want to cancel their service, they ignore you and keep on billing you.
XM is ok, but wasn't worth the price to me. I ended up only listening to a couple stations, plus it cuts out every time you drive under a tree or in a valley.

Xm is far from perfect yet far superior to terrestrial radio. For snowplowing its great, baseball, comedy,traffic,etc. Worth the money to us as we listen to many hours of radio each week.

I don't have XM anymore as my commute is now only 8 minutes. When I was driving an hour a day, though, I loved it. For me it was all about the jazz. We don't have any good local jazz stations. I listened to some of the old style radio dramas too and the comedy stations. The nice thing about XM is the huge variety of options.

We had Sirius free for a year in the wife's car. Problem is here in New England (especially when we go to Maine), the "view angle" to the satellites is too low on the horizon. Mix trees on the sides of the roads in, and you lose signal regularly... Works great on the highway, but not on the "byways"...

If you listen to Sirius/XM you'll find the playlists are getting repeated quite frequently. I hear the same stuff over and over. No different from regular radio, but I would have hoped the rotation was a bit deeper. Anyway, if you go with sat radio, it is a good thing.

If you have a smart phone like an iPhone or Pre or Blackberry, you have more options. You can use your car XM subscription to allow you to get S/XM over the web and plug the phone's headphone jack into your tractor radio's Aux input. That way you only pay for the car. (You can also use your PC as a stereo in the house.) Or you can forget the sat radio and use Pandora, iTunes or something similar to tune in to hundreds and hundreds of web radio stations.

Alternately, use your mp3 player to listen to your music with ear buds. Or use a noise cancelling type headphone with mp3 input....

Lots of ways these days to get music.

Personally, I would never buy a fixed unit in my truck. Portable is the way to go. The refurbished inno I own also has an MP3 option, so best of both worlds. Plus, like others have said, if you get a subscription, you get the online stuff too.

Some people record several hours of a station on an MP3, then use the MP3 to listen to music while working in a bad reception area.

I couldn't enjoy a radio in my geographic area. Few radio stations, and almost all of them play country and western. I have no problem with C&W music, I just don't like to listen to other peoples problems
