Telescoping hydraulic cylinder 4 dump trailer

Here is my hair-brained scheme. You could simulate a telescoping cylinder by connecting two cylinders together. Put the rams going opposite directions and tee off of your lines. I'll see if I can find a minute to sketch up the idea and post it.

I never thought of that, but I wonder on the stress it would put on the cylinder end caps, etc. For light work that might work.

I'm sure there are ways to improve on the idea. You could even put a "S" shaped piece between the cylinders that fits the clevises and takes the stress. You could also build a box of sorts that the bases fit into.

That's what brainstorming is all about. Everyone throws out their mediocre ideas, and hopefully a superior idea is born in the midst of it all.

To me the liner idea seems the easiest. Is the trailer to large for a pickup liner? They are not as popular now and can be picked up cheap.

The liner is the best idea. You also have to consider how tippy it gets when you get it up high in the air and the material doesn't slide out. I have seen semi trailers full of gravel get a little tippy and that looks like it could get ugly in a hurry.

I think you will bend the rods with that setup-unless they are super big.

The other option is to put the cylinders side by side vs. one on top of the other. You'd have to move one or both brackets.

The problem with either setup is the load is not linear to the mounting pins. Look at the modified picture below:

Forklifts use a setup similar to this. They use 2 upright cylinders and one inverted all welded together. That's how a lot of them get the telescoping mast.
