It sounds like the center roller of the deck is flattening the grass and there isn't enough vacuum to pull it back up to cut it all. Check your deck to be sure the front edge is 1/4" lower than the rear. Did you add air to the tires or adjust the deck before this started to happen? Did you adjust the height of the rollers?

Haven't done anything... I need to check the deck height to see what the measurements are.

That center roller idea sounds logical... I'll check that out also.

Any chance the blades are the wrong length? How close are they to the perimeter of the deck?

was going to check that also... although the part number on the box matches that of the one on the link I posted.

Add the length of the three blades. and see if they are longer than 60 in. Check your center spindle and see if the front to rear distance is the same. The length of each blade should be longer than 21 in. If the blades were to short, you would get two strips not cut.

Raise the center front roller up some.

They measure 20.1" long, which matches the lenght given in the link. That would give a .2" overlap on the blades. That seems ok, but need to check what is actually on the mower.

Are the blades dull? They usually dull from the tips back and they will leave a a strip. Also if not sharpened correctly the tips can be ground back more than the rest of the blade and they will leave a strip.

Is it possible it is the grass that is different and not the mower? Could it be drier and not as springy as it was and or could you be letting it grow taller and it is breaking rather than just bending when the center roller comers over it?

As to the center roller, is it rolling? If it is not and dragging that probably would do it.

The grass is very green, and was taller than normal. It could be the center roller.

I'm going to have to check all this out tomorrow and let ya'll know.

If the grass is long and thick, try raising the deck a couple of notches and mowing the grass longer. If the problem goes away, the lower backto the normal level and mow again. I would also recommend you go a little above the recommended rpm and turn those blades just a little faster. I'll bet your grass is overpowering you. This would be the best scenario for you.

That could all be... this is not Saint Augustine, it was a hay meadow at one time.

The deck heights are 1" - 4" at .5" increments, and I mowed at 3.5", so not much longer I could mow it.

Everything measured out,on the deck, as it should, and nothing was out of place or wrong. I'll see what it does next week, which should be a normal mowing.
