I wonder what one post "simple" and one post "jJwarren" have for tractors. Or what they think about tractors. Or what they think about google searches for "easywater".

lol.

Just so everyone knows you guys are on the top of google searches when you type in "EasyWater review" which may be why this thread is getting so popular.

I'm a water softener professional and have been for several years and I'll tell you that this "EasyWater" system is a complete scam and isn't the first one I've seen. There are lots of companies that come in and try to put us out of business with their "wondermagnet's" and "easywater" systems. I've noticed that they are never around for longer than a month or 2 and when they leave I'm the one that gets paid to remove all of their piece of garbage systems and put real tried and proven water softeners in.

As far as the Culligan water softener systems I can tell you yes, they are in the business of selling salt so they program the units to use much more salt than necessary. Trust me it's the easiest thing to do and if you all want I can explain it to you.

The most efficient system you can get will cost you around $1,500 but it will use far less salt than any other unit. They are assembled by professionals who measure the amount of hardness in your water and adjust the softener to use only the amount of salt necessary. For example I, living in the desert in Arizona, have real crummy water at my house - to be scientific our water has 40 grains of hardness. Culligan and other companies program their softeners to remove 60 grains of hardness but that's the worse case scenario of any water in the nation. Most city water will have about 20 grains of hardness so, if you do the math you are using 3x the amount of salt necessary. That's why generic water softeners are a joke.

This is how the real water softeners look:

Anyway, I'm not here to sell softeners or anything. I'm just here go give my advice and share my knowledge on softening water.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have a well that "came with the place",

I am kicking around some kind of system, bare bones type,. I am thinking it may be wise to have my water tested, (that is the reason I haven't "shocked" my well). to see what I'm dealing with prior to a major expenditure.

Any one test their water??

What do you want to test it for? Bacteria? Hardness? Iron?

If there is a well you'll for sure want one of those systems that automatically chlorinates the water. It's quite dangerous to use well water straight out of the ground since you don't really know what's in it.

Absolutely, you should have your well tested every couple years for bacteria, hardness and high levels of minerals, pesticide residue, radon and arsenic if that applies in your area.

But, I don't think it's right to say wells are dangerous - assuming you are being your own 'water company' and doing the job right. It will cost a bit, but worth it to know what you are drinking.

All this talk about "Hot Water Heater" issues is something that I have never seen, cause all I ever see at the Lowes or Home Depot in our area is
"Cold Water Heaters":D:D:D. I remember my neighbor telling me he had been working all morning trying to unthaw his water pipes and I asked him why and he said cause cause there froze and I told they are already unthawed then.:D:D:D:D Remember I am from WV and if you dont get the joke its ok.:D:D:D

I had my water tested 3 years ago when I moved in.. I was assured the water was very good.

I got to find out a bit more about my well when the pump siezed up on tuesday (yes 4 days ago) On wednesday after making sure the no water condition wasn't due to an electrical failure I called a local licensed well expert.

He dbl checked the electrical system and we found the pump was drawing 240 amps!! (I need to replace the circuit breaker.:( ) He hooked up his machine to pull the pump up out of the well, (that thing is neat) and removed the pump.. he was surprized at the pristine condition of the line and pump... very clean no slime and the only rust was from the steel on the pump itself. He told me he often sees a lot of rusty slime on the line and pump. He did put a little bleach in the well after he finished, but that was because we have free range chickens and the line laid on the ground for an hour or so...yes he cleaned it carefully before dropping it back down..but thought it wise to be careful.

So from what I've read here, stay away from the easy water system?

All the above is what I was thinking.

When we had our farm, we had a chlorinater installed, a softener was already installed by the previous owner. Considered a way to add fluoride, but just use Act mouth rinse.cheaper

We don't use the well for drinking water, everything else though. After reading reports about "big city" water, I doubt there is allot in my well that could be worse, but you never know

So from what I've read here, stay away from the easy water system?

If you live in the country there is someone that installs a water filtering system for wells. If you run straight well water all your sinks and tubs will be permanently stained by rust. Most likely your house will stink of Hydrogen Sulfide (rotten eggs) after taking a shower. Your drinking water will smell like rotten eggs. It's safe to drink if you can stand the smell. Our system is custom built. It doesn't come from a manufacturer. There are two filters that back flush three times a week. An automatic air compressor that pumps a small amount of air in to the water lines to control rust and a reverse osmosis drinking water system. There is no chlorine, no rust, no stinky water, and no hassle. This water comes from the ground and is not recycled from the local sewage plant.
