I live on 45 acres and my neighbor is able to use an access road from my place to get to his property. In the past several weeks, the gate to the pasture has been left open and my livestock has gotten out. Can I put a chain and lock on the gate as long as I give him a key?

If he isn't closing the gate now what good will a lock do?

Why don't the two of you split the cost & build a cattle gate? He gets the convenience of not having to open/close a gate & you get cattle that stay home. MikeD74T

I am 99% positive that he is doing it on purpose. This way if it is left open, I would know and could take action.

I have horses and those gates are not the safest for them.

If he is doing it on purpose then I don't know what to say. Maybe an automatic gate closer would be a wise investment.

yes, you can lock the gate as long as he has a key. you could do an auto gate w/ an auto close sensor, as long as you gave him the access code, as well.

Can you re-arrange the fencing, gate, or road so he doesn't pass through a gate?

I have horse's and 3 cattle guards ... no horse problems EVER, just make sure they are constructed right

This guy is not much into compromise. He has several other areas without gates that he can use. He just decides to use this one.
