I have always used a 3 pt. 6 foot shredder because I have always had a 40 - 60 hp tractor and used it primarily for food plots, lanes, woods roads etc. I recently found a 90 hp tractor and want to get a larger shredder. Realistically, if I stick with a 3 pt. type, 7' is about as large as I have seen around here. Therefore, I am considering an 8 or 10 foot. pull behind like a Rhino Turbo model. I manage mostly for wildlife and rotate shredding areas every 2 or 3 years so I shred some large bushes and thick grasses. My question is:

What are some of the main differences I will experience when I switch from a 3 pt to a pull type shredder. How easily are they transported on a trailer, how tight can you turn with them. Do they follow the contour of the ground as well or better. Can you cross ditches and creeks with them more easily or not as easy as with a 3 pt. Some have mentioned mowing with a pull type is "less dusty" because it is farther from the tractor. What are your thoughts. Thanks

I would get a 15 foot batwing with a 90 HP tractor, especially if you have a lot of acreage. The manufacture websites will probably tell you the turning angle, but the drive lines with a CV joint versus a U-joint will turn tighter.

You can use the lift cylinder when crossing a ditch or creek to reduce the stress on the driveline, or best to cross at an angle. It's not any worse than crossing a ditch with a 3 point.

I have a 3 point JD MX-6 and a JF 15' HX-15 batwing mower. They both have their places.

Transport on a trailer is no problem with a batwing as long as the width is right.

Crossing ditches, etc has never been a problem with my batwing mower. In some cases I think it is easier on you and the mower. I bent the downward bars on my 3 point mower. Batwing just rolls thru it.

As far as dust - I don't think it makes much difference.
