I saw this: Backhoe Crane - P.W.C.E. - 1-800-990-7923

I have a Kioti DK55 with a backhoe and was wondering how to do something like this. I need to lift 100 pounds 20' in the air and this looked ideal. It's pricey for what they offer. I've made makeshift crane arms with 2x boards and it worked for what I needed at the time for small things.

I'm wondering if a 30' aluminum I-beam might have all sorts of useful purposes even if a bit expensive at first.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

In Holland it is pretty standard practice to equip wheel loaders with telescopic booms. However to legally operate a wheel loader as a hoisting device, it requires piloted check valves on the cylinder, and electronic load moment indication and cut-off when you extend a heavy load so far away from the machine that either the stability will become tricky, or the pressure in the tipping cylinders is reaching a dangerous level.
Most popular is the 15 ton loader class, above that its cheaper to hire a boom truck.

The thing with the backhoe is, its made for digging (downforce) not lifting. When you lift a heavy load close to the machine and then decide to extend the boom with load, you take the risk of overloading the hydraulic circuit, which will blow off oil through the section safety port: When the boom lowers, the load will move further away from the machine, which means it will only gain more leverage and you've lost.... dangerous situations.

If this practice is getting popular in the USA, it wont take long before you get the same rules as we, with mandatory piloted check valves and electronic load monitor....

I'm sure others will post the links, but if you do a search on here for boom poles you will find many different desgns where they were modified to fit the FEL. Since you have a 45hp tractor and I'm assuming FEL you can reach 20' with a boom pole easy.

This definately sounds like a more reasonable way to go.

There are a number of posts on boom poles off of the loader. Looks much simpler and easier on the machine.

That is a lot of stress to put on a machine in a way in which its not meant to be, particularly on the backhoe.

Thanks for the replies. I'll look up FEL lifts and see if that will do what I want.

One way of doing it is to get a Skid Steer Quick Detach plate with a 3 point quick hitch and then you can use a 3 point hitch pig pole.

I use a bale spear on my front end loader with a length of 2" schedule 80 pipe slid on over the main spear and it works amazingly well. We have set trusses on several buildings with it.
