My 4200's transmission site glass is leaking UDT like a sieve around the (lack of) edge sealing surface. Do I just pop the old one out with a screwdriver? If it comes out easily enough, I might just re-use it after putting on a little bead of sealing goo. Are they normally sealed with goo, or is there supposed to be an o-ring around the thing?

Thanks - JayC

not sure about your model, but there are other posts here about your same problem, try a search on site glass. From what I remember there is a "new improved" site glass that Kubota has issued. I expect they are not expensive if you are close to dealer. when you do switch it out, use front bucket to raise tractor so that hyd fluid level is below site glass and you will not lose any.

Park the rear tires on something so they are slightly higher than the fronts, You can then pry it out, (L4200 wedges in, some others are threaded).
The new replacements are mad with a better plastic and are designed to be a lot easier to read.
When you replace it use a little RTV around the edge... you will never have another leak.
I just replaced mine last year...
Retail from my dealer: 31301-14230 Gage, oil sight $7.34
Easy quick swap out. KennyV

It's been leaking since I've had the thing, but only dribbles a little bit - and since I re-graded it's parking spot slightly downhill, it became a non-issue. I just noticed it today after parking it on my driveway to hook up a battery charger a few days ago. Found a little puddle under the PTO this morning. If nothing else, at least I know that there's still UDT in there :).

I know that the replacements are cheap, but getting to the dealer is difficult - due mostly to pure laziness on my part. I figure I could stop the leak using the original, then pick up a new one when it's convenient...or never. Of course, I'll be hating myself if I put the old one back in.

Thanks dood.

The original is apt to fall apart when you remove it... be prepared to plug the hole with something if you need to use it before you can get a replacement...

I don't know if yours is the same as mine, but the threaded type will fall completly apart when you remove it (mine did), the new sightglass look to be e new design a little RTV on the gasket when you install it and don't overtorque it.
Probably better to leave the old one in the hole until you get the replacement in hand.

Yes ... same happened with my push in type.
The new design is a better grade plastic & constructed different... I would definitely have a new replacement ready to go in or something to plug the hole before removing the old one.
