I was thinking about adding a set of rear remotes to my Mahindra 2816. I called my dealer and he said Mahindra makes a kit, and that it would run me about $800:eek: installed.

Does that seem about right. Do other major brands cost this much?

Give me some of your opinions.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Seems high. Kubota's kit for 1 remote was also expensive when I looked at it, about $600.

If you are handy, you can do it yourself for less. Look at the hydraulics forum, rear remotes are often discussed.

The remotes for my Case were about $550 for the kit,I installed them. If you enjoy working on it yourself it's not too difficult. I bought mine from Messicks. You might check with them, they sell a lot of brands.

I installed a kit on my JD 3320- it was about $250 for the kit and I installed it myself, it wasn't too bad and the kit came with directions. The expense may depend on whether the tractor all ready has a valve ready for remotes or if a diverter/new valve needs to be installed. In my case my valve all ready had ports for rear remotes.

If you have the dough, it's nice to have the dealer install the rear remotes.
Is that eight hundred bucks for one set rear remotes? If it is, you might ask them for at least two sets or maybe three sets instead of only the one. The reason being is that you would only need a 2 or 3 spool valve instead of a single spool valve. So the cost would be the same for everything else except a slightly more expensive valve.

But if you're interested in saving a little, you can certainly do it yourself like the others have suggested.
If there is a kit available for your tractor, that makes installing it yourself even easier. The kit will most likely contain everything you need ... the new valve, connectors, hoses, QD's and even the brackets for mounting the valve and rear remotes. But you can still buy the individual components and do it all yourself. If you are handy, you could make your own mounting brackets. Like said above, there are many threads about adding rear remotes in the hydraulics forum.

My Mahindra dealer put a set of triple remotes on my 5525 for $750.

They're custom-built, not a Mahindra kit.

Thanks for all the replys,

I was looking at my owners manual and its says "Rear Auxiliary Remote Valves : 1 spool optional ", what does this mean exactly.

I think that means that on your model tractor, only one "factory" remote can be added. That's probably due to space restrictions. Essentially, if you want more remotes, you'll need to go with an aftermarket solution or build your own using your power beyond circuits. As Flusher indicated, your dealer might also be able to add non-Mahindra remotes to your tractor. At the price your dealer quoted, there are many solutions other than OEM.

Flusher, that is a nice looking setup. I think I will add a cover like you have over the valves- they get darned hot to the touch sometimes.
