Six Lessons learned from shopping for a new 50hp Kubota Tractor

as someone mentioned in another forum, you buy a dealership & service as much as a name brand tractor...sounds like you did good on all counts plus resale will hold....an maybe more importantly (imho) you chose the M over the L & grand L, much more tractor for the bucks. enjoy the honeymoon. bb

Thanks for the tips, good to know.

Unfortunately when I bought my L3400, although I had been aware that the issues people were having with the "jerky" three point hitch had long since been resolved, I wasn't aware that the tractor I received was approximately one year old at the time.

Ultimately, I realized what had happened when it was too late to address it for free.

Had I not shopped around to save $500, things may have worked differently. I'd say it's important to find out the age of the unit you're to receive and what improvements have been made the the model.

I agree, and that also concerned me. I talked with several dealers and found that the only "recall" or upgrade on the M5040 was the operator steps and brackets had been changed on later production to eliminate a potential weak early step and support bracket. The selling dealer confirmed that the tractor I bought had been manufactured late enough to have received the late upgraded support and step.

But a very good point...

6. However, not all comments received were "helpful".

You could have received no comment at all ....

Congrats on the M5040 hydro-shuttle, thats the one I really wanted until I stumbled upon a used MX5000 for the right price.

Nice leg work. Thanks for the update, getting back information can be of help to others.

Enjoy the tractor. I have been looking at those models since they were introduced.

Tractor is not being delivered until Monday afternoon...hopefully. It may end up being Tuesday afternoon if the driver is late making an earlier delivery into St. Louis Monday morning.

Kathy and I just got back from the farm where we spent the day making room for the new arrival in the shop building.

Will post pictures as soon as the tractor is home.

Need to find a larger brush hog now...

Owner's manual indicated that a 7' rotary cutter is the largest recommended weighing no more than 1200 lbs. I was expecting to go at least 8'. However they don't differentiate between a single gear box and a three gearbox cutter which would be much shorter and easier on the three point hydraulics.

Any opinions?
