A decent fuel can?

wedge40 - attached are two shots I took - but nothign fancy about the "how to" process.

I can tell you now I have filled them - stored them for a bit - and then poured into tractors... you need a funnel to get the contents in - but it comes out of the jug nice and does not splash all over like it used too.

I'm happy!

That's a good idea.. but are you sure that rubber compound is resistant to diesel or gasoline?

I just found what looks like a great solution to this annoying problem.. For me at least! And to give credit where credit is due, I saw it posted over on the Arborist Site in the Chainsaw forum..
The solution comes from Scribner Plastics, and they call it a "utility jug", they also advise that it is not for fuel. But, it's got either one or two vents, and it will empty it's contents in a hurry. The vents can also be bought as replacements to add to the other junk cans we have sitting around..
It may well be illegal to fill them with fuel or diesel, but when the government forces stupid solutions to non-existant problems down our collective throats, my obligation to observe the stupid laws ends!

Here's the link to Scribner Plastics..

Guys, these "liberal" fuel cans have been around at least since 2006. Don't know who was in charge, in 2006...but the one I got, I got in December 2006 in Nebraska. Seems that the Blitz is the only supplier of choice around here.

Enough with the political commentary already.

Let's see. $30-$65 for a fuel can without the enviro spout that I used to pay about $5 for?

I use one of these

15 gal

I bought mine off of CL for $40

I lift it into the air with the FEL on my tractor, removed the stupid trigger filler nosel thingie on the end. stuff the hose in the tank, reach over and turn the ball valve on the bottom. gravity does the rest.

Ive also placed it on a shelf at about 7' lvl and drive up to it and reach over and do the same thing without having to lift it with the FEL everytime.

I really wish that I'd stocked up on replacement spouts for the old Rubbermaid 5 gallon cans, they tend to break from age at one of the bellows. Hoseclamping a piece of clear tubing to the stub will have to suffice until a better solution can be found.
For small quantities I find that a plastic half gallon whiskey jug works well, one for regular mower gas and one for chainsaw/trimmer gas. And they're free if you or someone you know buys bottom shelf hooch.

Man, about 3 of those $75 plastic cans and you could have had a 100 gallon steel storage tank with electric pump (used off Craigslist). I bought 2, both with 15gpm 12 volt pumps for $300 and $350 respectively. One for $350 had auto-shutoff nozzle on it so guaranteed no spills and no lugging 35-40 pound cans of fuel. Smaller sizes like 50 gal are also available even cheaper for the small volume fuel user.
