dumbest thing? loaned it to somebody once without me in the driver seat...

Golly, I'm lucky I guess; the neighbour insisted I use his tractor and rototiller to do some work over at my play farm area. And better yet, he volunteered to loan it again!;):D And this was after the exhaust stack broke while I was using it!;):D

It seems every time my Father in law would insist i use his tractor it would break also. . .i spent more time fixing it than using it. . . wounder if thats why he offered:rolleyes:

No problem fixing it; the neighbour did that. It had been brazed at the break point many a time before.:D:D

I have really beat up screwdriver I give to people when they want to borrow a tool. I tell them that this is the tool I loan out. That pretty much stops the discussion right there.

Pete

AMEN!! And especially to my brothers. I have a neighbor that I'll loan anything to, but not my brothers. One of them borrowed a 3/4" drive Snap On torque wrench, he was running a little short on money, so he pawned the wrench "till payday" he said. Cost me $250.00 to get my wrench back.

I tell them now if they want to borrow a tool, then they have to come to my shop and use it in my shop, and it has to be when I'm there.

I'll still loan to my neighbor, though...:D

went to dump the bucket full of material over the bank and there goes the bucket with it down over the bank. Thought to myself I'll flip the levers when I get around the corner of the building with the tractor. DOH!!

Oh wow! I hope it wasn't a big steep bank!

It's a good reminder although my skidsteer came with the electro mechanical option, all I have to do is throw a switch :) But my FEL on the tractor is like yours. Thanks for the heads up!

Wow! Were you "torgued off" enough to beat him over the head with the replacement?:D

Wow, have you ever thought about disowning them?;)

Two things I've learned over the years;
"Don't borrow anything unless I can afford to replace it"

and

"Don't loan ANYTHING unless I don't need it back."

I wanted to, but I didn't want to break my wrench.

Sometimes I feel like it, but in the end, they're still family. (but I still don't loan to them). :D

Dumbest? That's easy.

Ran my new (to me) NH out of water, discovering the error as the thing ground to an agonizing stop in the middle of the street in front of the house.

But the good news was that I posted lots of pictures here on the rebuild process, which took me a few days and about 3-400 in parts as I recall.

I'm sure there will be many more since I 'm only as far along as doin' my 50 hr service today. Was movin' right along and doin' good until ................. I went to change
engine oil and filter after changing hydro and trans filter and adding 3 gals of hydro fluid. I removed the wrong drain plug under the engine and promptly drained back out 1 gal of $ 16.78/gal. brand new hydro fluid of the 3 I had just put in the rear of the tractor. Went about my business pullin' the correct plug and did engine oil and filter. Called service department and humbly admitted what a Dumb *** I had been and asked what to do. They verified my already thought of solution and were kind and understanding. I guess $ 19 k can buy a lot of
kindness and understanding : ) . The whole event almost put me in red *** ring tail mode !!! I got a fresh beer instead. Had a private talk with myself about gettin' older, but not much smarter and all was good. Only time will tell if I will burn up my new toy. Scared to death I really messed up my new toy and I 'm already hearing strange imaginary noises from every where.
