I'm not sure about the clearance issue you mention. They're probably some cross material between foil and mylar. All I know is they're super thin, and I took great care not to 'bugger' them up, and reused them! ~Scotty

OK guys.............guys...........? are you out there??? Thing runs great, but, after my latest repair, the detent just barely holds in both directions. My valve is a Cross (?), that has detent in both the forward, and retract positions. Where is the detent adjustment? I see two possibles, the 'Acorn' nut in the front, the 'Cap' in the back. Any help? J_J, KennedyD? TIA ~Scotty

I have only used the Prince log splitter valve. The thing to do if you don't know which one, is to back out the nut/screw a 1/4 turn at a time and see what effect it will have on the relief or detent. Did you mess with any parts on the valve?

No, J_J, I just split the unit open, and replaced the shaft end bearing and seal. I did nothing else, except drain and renew the hydro oil, and replace the filter. I will just barely hold in 'detent' in forward and reverse. Seems to be a little better when it warms up. I know that the Safety Police say that it's dangerous to have a 'forward' detent, but I find it very useful, especially when working alone. Kenny- It's an old Cross valve thats probably 30yrs old! Model number unk! ~Scotty

Cross's website SUCKS, and I can't find any instructions even for the new valve witch I bet are the same...The acorn nut is probably the PRV (pressure relief valve) setting, the cap should have the balls in it to provide the detent feature.

I just posted in another area, about the new double log splitter valve where both levers detents when pushed forward. The log splitter, splits to the stop, and does an auto reverse, and stops for the next cycle

J_J-Can you post a link for that fully auto (two lever) valve? I searched for 'auto return' log splitter valves, and all I come up with are valves that are detented in retraction, not the one you described. Thanx! ~S
