The concrete trucks made a mess out of my nice new(soft) 1/3 mile driveway. As in the past, I attempt to use the draft control when scraping driveways to try and keep from scalloping the surface when going up and down the inclines. Either this is the wrong application for the draft control, I am doing something wrong, or there is a problem with the DC. Whenever the DC kicks in the 3 point starts to chatter. If I just ignore it, the chatter grows and flows to the front and the whole machine is being wagged by the "tail".
This only happenes on DC...what gives?

I have the same issue on my DK45Se HST. I've just given up trying to use it successfully. If you're like me, it kind of makes you feel a bit dumb, and everyone knows trying to figure it out via the owners manual is impossible. Looking forward to some SIMPLE (lol) replys on this.

When I use Draft Control for grading purposes, I have to get it set juuuust right, or I get the same chattering that you guys are talking about. Have you noticed the chattering more or less at what speeds. I normally try to have it set pretty soft so that the rear blade won't cut in as much. How do you guys set your Draft Control and do you use it along with the Position Control?

This a follow up on how my owners manual says to set the Draft Control.
Get the implement to the desired depth using the Position Control.
Then with the tractor stopped, move the Draft Control lever up until you juuuust notice the 3PT start to lift. At this point with the PC and DC levers in their set positions and stops in place you should be set. You only use the PC to lift the implement, the DC stays in its location up against the adjustable lever stop. This has worked very well for me when using my rear blade. I normally try to cut about 1" of material while finish grading.

Sometimes you may have to slightly adjust the DC lever to fine tune it so as not to have the chattering that we are talking about.

This is what has worked for me, I hope that it can for you as well. ;)

Brian, that is how I set the DC. The problem is, once set in the above manner and I am scraping the driveway on level ground everything works fine. But, when going up hill, and the BB starts to dig in more due to the increasing angle.....chatterchatterchatter. My driveway has characteristics resembling a roller coaster,....... 3/10's of a mile long.
I must be doing something wrong, or the DC is only designed for level ground.

RD, having the 3PT move up and down should not matter. That is what DC is for, so that you can always shave off the same amount of material. Of course that is based on that the material being worked is consistent, the PC should stop the blade from going to low. Maybe try making small adjustments in each direction with the DC, see if that does anything. Also what hole do you have your top link in on the tractor? I use the top hole which is the most sensitive on my tractor.

Yep top hole here too. Hmmmm, I'm thinking I just may be "draftcontrol challenged"...maybe have a dented draft control gene. Too much of Grampa's cough syrup?

When you start the tractor pull both 3 point levers all the way back. then lower the draft control all the way forward then adjust your height control and then draft.

May I ask what is the purpose for the movement of both levers at the start of your sequence? Does this do something inside?
