Great looking pair, the buck and youg man. You are right about hunting a long time before killing a buck like that. In all my years as a hunter never killed over an 6 point. There have been no set minimun on bucks size in East Texas until this year. There are a few great bucks out there but never had the chance on one. With the new 13" spread rule going into effect this year it should help out down the road.

So how do you measure the antler spread before you take your shot?

You are probably having more Lyme disease cases with that many deer around. Some areas along the coast in S. Maine have bow hunters come in several times a year to clear them out. The meat goes to food pantry programs. The bow hunters are specially certified for this and it's about the only safe, foolproof and inexpensive way to do it in a populated area.

I'd be concerned about shooting something in the *** or the foot, where it would wonder for weeks in pain looking for the guy who did it to him.

My guess is I'd be better off with a 12 guage and a slug. But I haven't shot anything since my Navy days so I'd need to get to the range.

This is fingers on the keyboard really though...I'm a ways off from executing...if you know what I mean..

really just try to judge based on ear tip to tip averaging 12-13", problem with this law is so many shoot one to small and leave him lay. Seen it in Colorado when they tried the 3 pt system.
