On a yanmar, I believe the 3 PTO speeds are 540, 980 and engine speed.

So... As long as the blades turn the right direction (which, it sounds like they do), you are in luck!

I also like the idea of turning the gearbox around 180 degrees. Sounds like a relatively easy solution.

Good find!

If your PTO shaft is turning clockwise, then what ever shaft you hook up to it has to turn counter clockwise. Two shafts facing each other. Rules are rules.

Rules were made to be broken,If you change the position of the ring or pinion that will change the output rotation.
And if he has engine speed to the PTO you could possibly increase the pulley size on the gearbox output to increase the speed.

I agree that if he has engine speed available at the pto he would be in luck since most diesel cuts run at around 2200 rpm but what about Torque? Do you think it will do the job? I do not know, that is why I am asking.

Hi J J,
glade you chimed in .... This is the way it works, The PTO spins Clockwize
and while facing the driveshaft side of the mower deck the gearbox turns counter clock, this means that when the 2 are connected they will turn correctly together in the same rotation ;) so the rule does apply :D
and if you were to stand on top of the deck while the blades are turning,
( just theory speaking ) the blades would be rotating Clockwize,

That's fine and good but you are still pushing the deck backwards and if you made the deck go the way it's supposed to go you will have to turn the gearbox in a different direction.

I have a 60" MMM for a Honda 6522 that's missing the drive belts and needs TLC. I'm thinking of taking it to the curbside with a "FREE" sign and seeing if it disappears. Possibly someone with a welder and a bit of imagination could do as you have and Mcgiever it into a 3PH mower.

You guys may have a Yanmar I haven't seen. The fastest high PTO speed I have seen was on a later model F series at 1125. I have sold over 100 Yanmars and I put a mechanical tach on each model to check the RPM.

Thats what I thought they normally run 540-720-1200 he will have to increase the pully size at least 2-1

you probably know better than I do then. On my F16d, the book stated the 3rd speed was 1:1, "Engine speed".
