Open center log splitter valve or closed center valve?

I have a Montana 3440 hst and just bought the speeco log splitter. Does anyone know if I need to use the conversion kit that comes with it?The conversion kit changes it from a open center valve to a closed center valve. For whatever purpose?

Put a gage in the pump circuit and see if you have constant high pressure. An OC system should read no pressure to very little pressure. .

I have installed the speeco log splitter(oc) and it seems to run good.the legs and frame holding the log splitter needs some beefing up though.I used 2 5ft 4000lb preasure hoses and luckily 2 general pioneer disconnects from tractor supply.
