Those of you guys that have 3pt chippers would you consider them built heavy enough for light commercial use? I am looking at the Jinma 6" mounted on my JD 2520 and would like to do some light commercial work with it. What do you guys think?

Does the shute on the Jinma rotate 180 degrees? Also would it have enough power to blow chips into a truck? Thanks.

I cant justify $4-6K for some of the other 3pt units out there. At that point you could buy a free standing unit with its own power plant.

So you are going to trailer your tractor and chipper to a jobsite and chip wood? Versus pulling up with tow vehicle and a towed chipper? Depending on what you want to do for your services I think a towed chipper is a better way to go depending on how far and how much chipping you are going to do. At least that works the best for me. I do tree work as a side job. For me I go and drop the tree's and then chip into a truck or leave them. It wouldn't be practicle to tow a tractor with a 3pt chipper to a job site. Most of the time I can pull up close to where I am chipping also.
From what I understand the 3 pt chippers work ok. You might want to look for one with a power feed roller if you can find one.

1; I have sold several to landscaping guys. The key to these chippers are proper prep / set up before they are put to work.

2; Not sure what the PTO hp is on a 2520 and what size/diameter you want to chip?.

3: The ones I sell do not rotate. Remove 4 bolts and can either blow left or right. Power to blow is effected by PTO power/speed.

There is a picture here showing chips being blown in a pick up.

I wouldn't trade my Jinma for anything. That said, you just don't unload it and go to chipping. It takes some tweeking. I spent hours getting it " just right". If you are a tinkerer, you will have a great experience with it. If not, it will drive you nuts. I wouldn't have it any other way. I use it now for long periods of time and come home happy. I'm sure they have inproved it some, since I have had mine for several years. Like Ranch Hand said, proper setup. If your dealer does his part, you will just need to fine tune it, and keep an eye on things until you are sure it is " just right".

I run a Valby on my orchard. It is plenty hearty enough for light commercial use. I run it behind a K 3710. 35 pto hp is plenty for it. It has hydraulic motor, speed adjustable feed drum with reverse, forward and stop crash bar.

I echo the comments above about PTO units for commercial work. Trailering a tractor + implement with a truck big enough to blow chips into has to be a pain in the tail, as compared to a self powered trailerable chipper. If I cannot drive my tractor to the work site.........it doesn't go.

I have a small tree removal business. I have one to two groundmen plus a kioti lk3054 with a jinma chipper. all I can say is it works great for me. Light and small enough to get just about anywhere and with a set of forks on the front I can move and load the wood with out a lot of damage to the property or employee injurys. Anything 6" or bigger I keep for firewood and all gets removed in log length from the property. Chips all get blown into to a dumpster and taken away with no problems loading a dumpster tightly. Yes preventive maintainents is the key with the jinma but also with any chipper. it has stood up and preformed well for me. hope this helps.

wallenstein could handle light commercial use - basically what I do with it, only for myself. But a tow behind chipper would be better.

thanks for the input guys. I have been going back and forth between a free standing unit or 3pt. There are pros and cons to both. The township I live in is clearing the Right of Way (46 miles worth) and they are currently renting a chipper, at $160 a day. I have been in contact with them about doing some custom chipping for the township. I just dont know how the heck to charge? Any input?
