$17 One Can Kero

I don't know, I just chuckled to my old self, walking out of Sheetz here in Winchester, VA with a 5-gal plastic can of kerosene, having paid them $17 plus change.

It was funny to me.

I was thinking more a dollar twenty.

I agree, it's amazing the cost of most anything today. I'm 49 and remember when the old man gave me $20.00. I thought I was rich. Country slowly going to crap.

Fifty years ago, in my dad's service station, we were selling kerosene for a dime a gallon. Of course, the customer had to provide his own container. We also sold "white gas" (unleaded, in other words) for the same price. The white gas was primarily used in Coleman lanterns. And of course a lot of the kerosene was also used in lanterns, but a different kind of lantern.

In fact, 55 or so years ago, I had to use kerosene lanterns a lot myself, since I had to milk the cow twice a day and we didn't have electricity to the barn.

$17?! Around here it's more like $39 for a 5 gallon jug.

Yeah I was gonna say you got a bargain, haven't checked this year but last year it was through the roof 6-7 bucks a gal for the K1.
Must be down this year, I only use about 20 gallons a year in a salamander heater.

The filled 1 gallon cans from Lowe's and HD are even higher per gal.

I'm headed to Winchester on Monday for a project and plan to fill up since all fuels are at least $ .10 less per gallon vs. Maryland...

Try TSC for a 5 gallon can of kero .... $45 on sale. Last time I bought some from the distributer it was about $4 a gallon. That has to be one expensive can that TSC has their stuff packaged in.
