Tractor
NH TC33D
I recently changed all the filters with NH filters and had a serious arguement with my father-in-law that we should use NH filters only after doing research online. He insists Napa is the same but i have no leg to stand on since i can't find any numbers to compare them. anyone have some numbers for me just to save face?

This is debated even more than brand choices for oil. I have seen instances where Wix (Carquest, NAPA) filters have caused operational symptoms in hydraulic and hydrostatic systems in New Holland tractors that disappeared by simply installing NH filters. Others will loudly claim no problems or operational differences with Wix filters. Never have I heard it claimed that Wix supplies filters to New Holland, at least from any credible source. Part numbers are brand specific, not application specific, so there isn't any help for you there. It's your tractor, your debate. There isn't likely to be a winner, and the issue probably isn't worth inciting a family conflict over.

At least for me the OEM filters are only a few bucks difference. I'll use them.
The HST filter costs me a little more though.

The only thing you can compare is the micron rating of the filters. Some filter companys don't list the micron rating but that is what tells you how big of particals will pass through the filter.

Who owns the tractor? If it's yours, ignore your FIL. You don't have to justify anything. If you feel the need to respond, use what RickB said, i.e., he's seen some issues.

If you both own the tractor, then use Inspetor507's argument, the price difference, if any, isn't worth it.

We had a Napa filter colapse internally and destroy the engine of a TN last year... I don't know if the customer ever got anything out of Napa to cover the new engine. Had they spent the extra $5 on the NH filter it would have been an easy warrenty fix.

I believe in the automotive industry there is a law, If manufacturer specifies you can only use their oil or filter they have to supply it for free.

I once accidentally bought a hydraulic filter for my NH TC 29 and I bought it and was told it was a NH filter...I took their word for it and installed it and all was fine for about 10 hrs. of operation of the FEL and TPH and then it started sqealing...In trouble shooting the problem I came to realize the filter was not an OEM filter after all. Once I installed the proper NH filter the problem went away. Now it makes sense to me this would happen since the filters must be designed to handle the flow of the pump..Just my guess but maybe Neil Messick can add more to this . I will only use OEM filters !

Just a passing thought, but isn't it interesting how few of us give a second thought to using "oem" oil filters on your trucks and cars that, in some cases, are as expensive or more expensive than our tractors? I have oem's on my Kubota right now. But, I think myself a wee bit double minded. I have NEVER used a genuine Honda filter on my wife's car, for example. It was twice the price of my small tractor.

Although, on my Ford truck, it always gets a Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filter. Just because Wally's sells 'em.
