Oil & Fuel BX Oil filter problem

A few years ago I thought I'd do the save money on filters thing. I went to some auto parts stores to find filters for Kubotas. Glad I had plenty of time. When they (several employees) finally found a number that they thought might work it was about the same price as going to Barlows and telling Gary I needed a filter and he walks over and lays it on the counter. I don't do the filter shopping any more. When I was younger in the 50s-60's the biggest joke was anything made in Japan was cheap junk. Today, if it's from China it's junk and from Japan it's the best. Wonder how or the timing of those transitions happen, from junk to great? Will from China one day become great and will we really be aware of when it happens, if it does? Don't get me wrong, I use the Chinese junk statement alot, just like I used to use the Japanese junk statement back when it was. Japanese cars killed VW Beetles. When Toyota and Datsun (Nissan) made a car that had heaters, good gas mileage and would run circles around a VW the end was near. Does China make any good products? Bet you don't know what all you have that was made or has parts made in China. Times change, good or bad.

You couldn't have said it any better then I could. Same with kia. when they first came out- they were cheap and junk. Now they have the strongest caravan on the market. The Sedona has a 3500 towing capacity for the base model . The dodge caravan doesnt even come close to it.

I think we would all be shocked at how much of our "stuff" was made in China or have parts made in China.
Look at Harley Davidson forks made in Japan...American made motorcycle??

Never judge a book by its cover. The quality is in the filter media and manufacturing process. WIX is a will-fit cheap alternative and will never compare in quality to OEM, nor will Kubota cover any engine or hydro that had an aftermarket filter on it. Not to mention, the price difference is insignificant. Stick with OEM. Consider it affordable insurance and peace of mind.

If you got a bad filter from your dealer (which is very uncommon) you should bring it back to them and I'm sure they'd be happy to provide you with a free replacement.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I know that for cars and trucks (and I think it applies to tractors as well) there is legislation (Moss-Magnesum (?) Act) that basically says that a company can not cover a warranty claim because you didn't use an OEM filter unless they give them to you FREE. Like I said I know it applies to cars, pickups, motorcycles, .... and I would assume it applies to tractors as well.

Even though I have said the above, I typically use Kubota OEM filters as my local dealer sells them for less than what I can buy the NAPA/WIX equivalent for at the local NAPA store.

I think that they are saying that if the filter were to collapse or fail and the engine failed, that Kubota would not warranty the repair. If the engine failed and the WIX (or other brand) did not fail, then they would honor the warranty.

But I do believe you are correct on not requiring the use of OEM parts as long as the aftermarket parts meet OEM specs.

On the off topic Chinese = junk issue....

When I see/hear this reference I always think of an article I read a year ago in US New and World Reports. It talked about how China was tired of being the "junk maker" of the world and the government was trying to raise the bar - which caused some factories over there to go under and had American retailers rebelling against the resultant increase in prices.

I have never seen any other mention of this topic and was starting to think I must have remembered it wrong, but I found the article online....

Now, obviously this article doesn't make it true - but I always felt USN&WR did a pretty good job reporting most things

Either way, it is interesting concept - if Japan could make the transition, why not China

And somehow, true or not, I still shudder that soon the US will produce absolutely nothing....except consumers

I thought the same thing but learned it is not easy. You really have to go out of your way not to buy something from China.

And then, you don't even know if it has Chinese parts on it.

BigD23, I hope you don't drive a car. I am sure somewhere on it is a Chinese part....and clothes....
